سلطت شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية الضوء على الموعد المحتمل لإقامة المباراة المؤجلة بين فريقي مانشستر يونايتد وليفربول في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وكان من المفترض إقامة تلك المباراة مساء أمس في الجولة الرابعة والثلاثين في الأولد ترافورد.

واحتجت جماهير مانشستر يونايتد خارج الملعب للمطالبة برحيل مُلاك النادي، قبل اقتحامهم الملعب وقيامهم بأعمال شغب. اقتحام جماهير مانشستر يونايتد لملعب الأولد ترافورد

وتسبب ذلك الأمر في النهاية في تأجيل المباراة لأجل غير مسمى.

وتحدثت شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية عن الموعد الأقرب لإقامة تلك المباراة، مع الأخذ في الاعتبار عدم إمكانية خوضها هذا الأسبوع، حيث سيواجه مانشستر يونايتد خصمه روما.

ويلتقي الفريقان في إياب دور نصف نهائي الدوري الأوروبي في الأولمبيكو يوم الخميس القادم.

ولن تُقام تلك المباراة الأسبوع القادم، حيث يجب الأخذ في الاعتبار أن ليفربول سيواجه ساوثهامبتون يوم السبت المقبل، بينما سيخوض مانشستر يونايتد لقائين ضد أستون فيلا وليستر سيتي يومي الأحد والأربعاء من الأسبوع نفسه.

وسيخوض مانشستر يونايتد آخر جولتين ضد فولهام وولفرهامبتون يومي 19 و23 مايو، أما ليفربول فسيواجه وست بروميتش ألبيون وبيرنلي وكريستال بالاس أيام 16 و19 و23 من الشهر نفسه.

ويجب الأخذ في الاعتبار كذلك أن نهائي الدوري الأوروبي سيقام يوم 26 مايو، حيث أن مانشستر يونايتد الأقرب لخوض تلك المباراة بعد فوزه في ذهاب نصف النهائي على روما بستة أهداف مقابل هدفين.

هذا الأمر يعني عدم إمكانية إقامة مباراة مانشستر يونايتد وليفربول بعد انتهاء الجولة الأخيرة من الدوري الإنجليزي المقرر لها يوم 23 مايو.

ولن يمكن إقامة هذه المباراة في شهر يونيو، حيث ستتجه الأنظار إلى بطولة يورو المؤجلة من الصيف الماضي.

وأشارت “ليفربول إيكو” إلى أن كل ذلك يؤرق ذهن المدرب يورجن كلوب ومسؤولي ليفربول، حيث كان الموعد الممكن لخوض تلك المباراة هو اليوم الإثنين، ولكن لم يعد ذلك ممكنًا بعد انتهاء يوم الأمس دون أي بيان جديد من رابطة الدوري الإنجليزي، ومغادرة ليفربول لمقر إقامته في مانشستر.

Chris Smalling has been ridiculed a little bit on Twitter this week.

The centre-back gave away a last-minute penalty for Roma in the Europa League on Thursday, but recent reports from Gianluca Di Marzio indicate that he’s actually having a fruitful spell in Rome.

What’s the story then?

After just two months of playing for the Serie A side, AS Roma apparently already want to make their loan deal for Smalling a permanent one.

The article describes Smalling as “Always among the best in the field and the leader of a defense that has found stability and compactness with [Gianluca] Mancini.”

After years of being panned by his own fans it’s interesting to see Smalling described in such a way, but following these supposedly incredible performances for Roma, Manchester United have a decision to make.

Don’t decide yet

United would be foolish to call it quits on Smalling’s Old Trafford career now.

With the centre-back impressing over in Italy, surely he’s worth another go if he keeps this up.

Ok, he’s only played four league games, and even the biggest Smalling sceptic will tell you that he’s capable of hitting form, but if this truly is the beginning of a resurgence, then United shouldn’t think about selling him just yet.

The report states that Roma will try to meet with United in the next few weeks to discuss his transfer, but the Red Devils should hold off these types of negotiations until the end of the season where they can fully assess whether or not he has the ability to be an asset in the Premier League.

After all, United have conceded on average one goal per game in the Premier League this season, and former boss Jose Mourinho has identified aerial quality as one of Victor Lindelof’s key weaknesses – Smalling, meanwhile, has won almost six aerial duels per game in Serie A.

Perhaps he can still have a role to play at Old Trafford.

Liverpool will look to continue their 100% start to the Premier League season against Newcastle on Saturday and Roberto Firmino could be key to their success.

The Brazilian has had a brilliant start to the league season and he will look to add to his two goals and two assists against the Magpies.

Newcastle are likely to concentrate on making the game difficult for Liverpool by keeping players behind the ball, as they did against Tottenham Hotspur, and therefore the intelligence of a player like Firmino could provide the difference.

He’s an ideal foil for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane either side of him, but all three will need to be at their best if they are to break down a stubborn Newcastle defence.

However, it is not just Newcastle’s backline which could look to contain Firmino’s influence as Sean Longstaff will also need to keep a close eye from deep-lying midfield.

Although the dynamics of this weekend’s clash are significantly different – Newcastle play a different system to Burnley’s 4-4-2 and won’t have home advantage – Firmino’s ability to sneak into the space between midfield and defence was a key factor in Liverpool’s win at Turf Moor last time out, according to The Athletic.

The Key Battle

As Newcastle’s last visit to a top-six side showed, Liverpool are likely to have an overwhelming majority of the ball, and therefore large portions of the game are likely to be played in and around the Magpies’ final third. That was the nature of the Magpies’ 1-0 win against Spurs, when they recorded less than 20% possession.

Longstaff will have the responsibility of restricting Jurgen Klopp’s team through the middle and he should have a particular focus on passes to Firmino considering his recent form, although his return of 0.5 interceptions per game suggests he may struggle to perform that role effectively.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool forward should also look to press Longstaff into errors when he does get on the ball, and the fact he has won back possession 1.3 times per game this season, on average, shows he should be up to the task. After all, winning the ball back in dangerous areas will only aid Liverpool and taking the ball off a deep-lying midfielder will give them the opportunity to unleash Salah and Mane against a backline that will otherwise be well-protected.

Based on Firmino’s form this season alone, there is a big task ahead for Longstaff. He’ll need to try and contain the Liverpool star, while ensuring he isn’t robbed in possession.

Firmino has made three key passes and three successful dribbles per game on average so far, and that flexibility in his play will surely cause problems against a side that hasn’t won at Anfield since 1994.

Erik Lamela has been lucky enough to be a part of one of the most talented teams in Tottenham Hotspur’s recent history.

He’s played alongside top talents such as Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Aldeweireld. However, none of those players make his dream five-a-side team.

Indeed, the winger was asked to choose a team filled with footballers he has played with throughout his career, and despite spending six years at Spurs, only one Tottenham player makes the cut.

Lamela starts off well enough as he chooses Hugo Lloris as the goalkeeper, but from then on he neglects choosing any Tottenham players.

He goes with two defenders in the shape of Nicolas Burdisso and Marquinhos, both of whom he played with at Roma.

However, we suspect the next choice will infuriate a number of Spurs fans as the Argentine picks Sergio Aguero over Kane as his second attacking option.

For years people have debated which striker is the best in the Premier League, but the fact that a man loyal to north London, who has played with both of the main candidates, has chosen Aguero may just settle it.

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic perhaps sprung a surprise in their sixth Championship game of the season against Blackburn Rovers as he made changes to his midfield for the first time.

The trio of Romaine Sawyers, Jake Livermore, and Filip Krovinovic had been the Croatian’s go-to for all five league matches, but he dropped his fellow countryman in favour of Matheus Pereira.

The Brazilian winger had only featured in a bit-part role this season having joined on loan from Sporting Lisbon, and his first start of the season saw him occupy that number ten position with Matt Phillips and Grady Diangana on either side.

His performance there was rather outstanding, which will surely give Bilic a welcome headache as the season goes on.

One of West Brom’s early-season woes has been the creation of clear-cut chances, or lack of  – as Football FanCast have previously mentioned here.

Pereira’s showing suggests that he may well be a solution.

The 23-year-old put in a remarkable performance as the Baggies’ main creative outlet.

He first assisted the equaliser, feeding Philips in with a well-timed through ball before laying the ball off to Livermore, who finished with aplomb into the bottom corner to double the lead.

Pereira made six key passes in the match, which was triple what anyone else could muster up – not only in the West Brom side but the Blackburn team too.

On top of that, his ability to create chances was further emphasised by his 30 passes in the attacking third, which was also more than anyone on the pitch.

The next best for the home side was Phillips with 20, playing out wide.

The uncapped Brazilian was able to register three dribbles as well as 70 touches, proving to be a menace in midfield for the west Midlands club.

West Brom’s regular option in the number ten role, Krovinovic, has averaged just 1.5 key passes per match so Pereira’s six eclipses that substantially.

It might be that the 5 foot 9 wide man is better suited centrally, and just maybe, he can be the creative outlet they desperately need.

وأكمل: “لايبزج فريق جيد للغاية، لديه لاعبين ومدربين جيدين، أعتقد أن الجميع يعرف ذلك، لكن رغم نتائجنا الأخيرة، لدينا الكثير من الإيجابيات التي يمكننا الاستفادة منها”.

Lots of Sunderland fans have been giving their verdict on some comments from Jack Ross, who wants the club to focus on using their youth talent rather than always looking for new signings.

What a weekend for the Black Cats. The club announced the signing of former Coventry City defender Jordan Willis, much to the delight of fans.

That wasn’t even their most important signing of the weekend though, as Aiden McGeady committed his future to the club, signing a new deal that will keep him on Wearside until the summer of 2021.

And now, Ross has encouraged the young talent at the club to force their way into his plans during pre-season.

“I’ve been pleased with them and there were a number of the younger players playing on Thursday,” he said.

“It’s good for them to be a part of it and I think we saw last season if you take Josh (Maja) and Denver (Hume) as an example of it that there’s an opportunity to force your way into the reckoning.

“Like Ethan (Robson) and Elliot (Embleton), they are players we have produced ourselves and we should embrace that rather than being obsessed by recruiting from elsewhere.

“They need that opportunity which hopefully I will be able to give them, but they also need to prove they are capable of taking it and then producing time after time which comes with the demands of playing for this club.”

Plenty of the Black Cats faithful have been delivering their verdict on the gaffer’s philosophy of pushing through young talent, and most of them are delighted to hear the club’s prospects will be given a fair chance.

Lots of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Kurt Zouma’s comments regarding his future, amid speculation that he could return to Goodison Park.

The France international spent the entirety of last season on loan with the Toffees, and became a fan favourite on Merseyside with many supporters impressed by his performances.

Zouma, 24, made 32 league appearances and scored two goals, whilst also grabbing two assists.

Marco Silva has made no secret of his desire to sign the 6 foot 3 centre-back, but also stressed that the club would not wait around for Zouma with just 16 days of the window remaining.

However, it now looks extremely unlikely that Chelsea will allow the former St Etienne man to leave Stamford Bridge again after the 5-cap France international said: “It is true that I enjoyed my time at Everton but I am a Chelsea player and we’ll see what will happen in the end.

“I think it will be here at Chelsea but the most important thing is to work and to prepare for the season. I want to do really well in pre-season to get my chance and be here.”

Blues boss Frank Lampard has also revealed his plans for Zouma, saying that he wants to keep him at the club.
