Abaixo, veja estes exemplos:

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wolves struggled to find the back of the net last campaign, scoring just 50 goals in their 38 Premier League games. This total was even beaten by relegated Luton Town and Wolves will have to improve to ensure they remain safe in the division for another year. With key forward Matheus Cunha linked to a move away, Wolves will need to get proven goalscorers through the door.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Strand Larsen was not the only Norwegian striker to find his shooting boots in La Liga last season. Villarreal's Alexander Sorloth scored 23 goals in the division last season to further demonstrate Norway are producing some of the best strikers in Europe.

"There's a lot of talent in the squad, everyone can see that. I'm thrilled I can go there to represent England, we've got amazing players. Hopefully the team can gel together and try to win a tournament. The fans are amazing and I just want to do everyone proud," Palmer told the .

"I knew a few of the seniors from City and Chelsea and it was good to be there but it was very different to the under 21s. I've only been twice so I'm not used to it but hopefully getting picked will help me get used to it. It's different because it’s more intense, there's pros who have been involved for many years. It's great."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Palmer's club form for Chelsea, 25 goals across all competitions in 2023-24, is what made him an obvious pick for Southgate. At times throughout the campaign, he carried the otherwise struggling Blues and his goals were important as well as numerous. His 101st-minute strike against Manchester United in April, the latest winner in Premier League history, stands out as one of his favourites in Chelsea colours so far.

Phil Salt assault launches Sussex into the ascendancy

Sussex supporters know by now not to spend too long away from their seats when Phil Salt is going about his business; whatever the young batsman does with a bat in his hands, it tends to happen quickly. His scores coming into this game were informative. Among his 13 innings this season were seven dismissals in single figures. But there was also a 137 off 106 balls that included six sixes in a 50-over game against Kent. To that can now be added the 122 in 104 balls with which he swung this match in the favour of Sussex, decisively they will hope.He is an explosive, all-or-nothing kind of player, not unusually for someone of 22 years old in the modern game. Some coaches and captains might find him infuriating. Sussex are in no hurry to see him change and quite happy to give him his head even against the new ball in the Championship.”He might have a crazy dismissal one day then win you a game on his own the next, so as captains and coaches we have to let him play his own game,” the Sussex skipper, Ben Brown, said following Salt’s call-up to England’s T20 squad earlier this month.Until then, Salt had not been selected in an England squad of any kind, not even at Under-19 level, which is slightly odd given the meticulous work that goes into the ECB’s talent identification processes, supposedly to ensure that the progress of no qualified player goes unmonitored, and that anyone with obvious talent is exposed to some kind of international cricket as soon as possible.Salt made 355 runs in the Vitality Blast last season, which is clearly his most effective arena, but he has such a good eye that if can survive the first dozen overs or so against the red ball he can produce an innings such as this one, which had echoes of the 148 he made at Hove last August to open a pathway to victory against Derbyshire. He got away with a fair few indiscretions in this one, picking up an early boundary with a slice over the slip cordon before an inside edge off Brett Hutton just before he reached fifty came within a whisker of his off stump. When the ball came out of the meat of the bat, though, it invariably went a long way. Jamie Overton, Nathan Buck and Luke Procter took it in turns to suffer, and when stand-in captain Adam Rossington turned to Rob Keogh, Salt went after his offspin from the off, smiting him through cover and over his head for back-to-back fours before hauling the next delivery over deep midwicket for six. That one cleared the bank of seats and sailed out of the ground, coming to rest in someone’s back garden, presumably. The only bowler he wasn’t able to get away to much gain was Hutton, in the game as an unprecedented second concussion substitute after Luke Wood was unfit to resume following the helmet strike he suffered against Chris Jordan on the second evening.Salt made the unfortunate Keogh watch the ball disappear into the distance a couple more times before it all came to a predictable end just before tea when another vigorous swing of the bat against Overton sent the ball directly upwards. As he began to run, he knew even before the ball started to drop that he may as well head straight for the pavilion.”At the end of the day, if you strip it back, it is just a ball coming down at you and you have to hit it,” he said.”Obviously, in four-day cricket you have to show the bowlers more respect but I don’t see much of change in the way I approach the game in different formats, apart from that mental switch.”Sussex had not been nearly as far ahead as they had hoped when Northamptonshire’s first innings ended, largely because of Buck, who had only once before passed fifty in 122 first-class innings but showed that he actually possesses a decent repertoire of strokes, particularly square of the wicket. His partnership with Procter, most of it against the second new ball, added 70 for the ninth wicket, taking Northamptonshire past the follow-on score and on to claim a third batting point. Ben Sanderson’s late support enabled Procter even to stay around long enough to claim a fourth. It left Sussex still 54 in front, but with a need to score quickly to manoeuvre themselves into a position from which they might dictate the way the contest played out. Salt completed that part of the plan, and half-centuries in the final session from Brown and Stiann Van Zyl have given them a big enough advantage to declare overnight, or at least early in the final day, although taking 10 wickets on this pitch will be a test.

Persistent rain washes out series opener

Sri Lanka were meant to start their pre-World Cup fine-tuning in Edinburgh, but the weather wasn’t kind enough

The Report by Peter Della Penna in Edinburgh18-May-2019
For the second time in eight days, a rare Scotland home ODI against a Full Member was affected by rain as the series opener against Sri Lanka was abandoned without a ball bowled. After waiting through close to five hours of on and off drizzle, umpire Gregory Brathwaite called both captains together to deliver the news, turning Tuesday’s second ODI into a series decider. It was a major blow to Cricket Scotland, who had hired temporary bleachers to accommodate a sellout crowd of 1500 and will now have to issue refunds as a result of no play taking place. It was also a dent in Sri Lanka’s World Cup preparation, leaving the second ODI as their only official action before their World Cup opener against New Zealand on June 1.While clear skies are forecast for the next two days, rain is scheduled to return on Tuesday, putting the entire series at risk of being washed out.

IPL won't impact World Cup selection – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli made this much very clear ahead of the first ODI in Hyderabad: The IPL will not impact World Cup selection.”I don’t see IPL having any influence on World Cup selection,” he said. “I think that will be a very radical sort of analysis. We need to have a solid team. Before we head into the IPL, we need be absolutely clear of what team we want for the World Cup.”I don’t see anything changing despite how the IPL goes for any of the players. If one or two players don’t have a good IPL season, it doesn’t mean that they are out of the picture for the World Cup. Those things are not going to matter.”ALSO READ: Finch has a ‘balancing act’ on his handsHe also made it clear India won’t compromise on their bowling attack just to give World Cup aspirants enough game time. As such, India’s squad has a settled look with just one or two spots up for grabs. Among them are Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar, a batting allrounder who is now in the mix following Hardik Pandya’s back injury.Vijay’s bowling was tested in the second T20I in Bengaluru, where he returned figures of 2 for 38. Bowling four overs in a T20I is one thing, completing 10 in an ODI another. India’s captain insisted that going with one fewer genuine bowler will not be a wise move.”We will have to think about the combinations, I don’t think playing a bowler less is a good idea,” Kohli said. “Because with the extra fielder in till the 40th over, it becomes very difficult to sort of get few guys to chip in with a few overs here and there. We will have to work out the batting combination to try and give game-time to the guys we want to. But, I don’t see the bowling combination changing.”India had rejigged their combination both in New Zealand and in the two T20Is against Australia at home, but Kohli stressed that they have prioritised winning this ODI series over experimentation.AFP

“We are playing to win the series, else I’ll leave the ball to hit the stumps,” he said. “As I said earlier, if we want to see how a few guys play in a certain situation, we’ll make play them again in that situation.”It’s not like if a guy is not playing in a certain situation, he doesn’t have the ability. We could not win the T20 series because in the first match we didn’t play good cricket and in the second match, Australia played better than us.”I think it’s important you understand why we lost. From outside, it’s easy to say, they don’t have the heart to play. We always want to win games for India. If we only had to experiment, we would have got out for 50 as everybody would have got out trying to hit sixes.”Kohli was particularly buoyed by KL Rahul’s return to form following a horrid time of late. He was troubled by inswingers and eventually lost his place in the Test squad in Australia last year. Then, he was suspended for his controversial comments on an Indian chat show. However, he worked his way back into international cricket by finding form with the India A side. Against Australia in the T20Is, he unfurled some sparkling shots, including the lofted drive that he mastered during his stellar run in IPL 2018.”It [Rahul’s return to form] augurs really well,” Kohli said. “When he plays well, KL is operating at a different level, I feel, and we’ve seen him do that in the IPL last year and in patches over the last season we played as a team. Hopefully, he can keep batting like that. It’s very difficult to find a consistent player who can find good cricketing shots and still win you games and strike at over 140 or 150.”He has all the shots and has a solid game as well. Hopefully, he can build on it and get as many games under his belt, playing as much cricket as possible. And then it will be interesting to see what happens in the final World Cup squad. Definitely, he has made a strong case for himself.”Since the start of the Champions Trophy India have tried out as many as nine players at No.4, with Ambati Rayudu getting the most chances there. He has made 431 runs in 11 innings at an average of 53.87 and strike-rate of 89.23. Kohli hasn’t batted at No.4 in this period, but is ready to move down from No.3 if the management wants him to.”If that [batting at No.4] is the requirement of the team at a particular stage in the game or before a particular game, I’m more than happy to do it,” he said. “I’ve batted a lot of times at No 4, so I don’t necessarily need to try it out because I’ve done that a lot of times in the past.”My game doesn’t change from No. 3 to No. 4 because template is quite similar. In any given situation, I back myself to play the game that I know. If the team wants it at any stage, I’m more than happy to do it.”

'He will return' – Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag reveals expected return date of injury-hit Mason Mount after missing Sheffield United clash

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that Mason Mount is on course to "return" against Burnley over the weekend.

  • Mount has been absent for the last two games
  • Had been nursing a calf injury earlier in the season
  • Midfielder has made just 17 appearances since arriving at OT
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Since joining the Red Devils in a £55 million ($44 million) deal from his boyhood club Chelsea, Mount has been hampered by several injuries, limiting him to just 17 appearances for the club. Despite recently recovering from a calf injury, the 25-year-old once again felt a niggle which forced him to miss United's last two games, including their victories against Sheffield United in the league and Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final.

    WHAT TEN HAG SAID

Ten Hag told BBC's Match of the Day: "For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don't expect (the majority of United's players to make a comeback). Mason Mount, he will return, I think."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

However, Ten Hag also revealed that there would be no reinforcements in the defensive line, with several key defenders sidelined due to injury including Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and Willy Kambwala. This has left the Dutch tactician with limited options at the back prompting him to use Brazilian midfielder Casemiro in central defence. Partnering with Harry Maguire, Casemiro's presence has been unable to provide stability to United's backline, conceding five goals in the last two games.

Yet Tan Hag backed Casemiro's abilities as a centre-back and said: "I think he’s a very good centre-back, together with Harry. Very stable in and out of possession.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

Mount's potential return could provide a timely boost to United's midfield, offering additional creativity and attacking impetus in the crucial stages of the season. They currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table, three points ahead of Newcastle United but seven behind Tottenham Hotspur who are holding on to the Europa League spot. After hosting Burnley, they will be in line to face Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton in the Premier League.

New and improved Pooran revels in T10 freedom

The West Indies batsman is enjoying a prolific run, quite unlike his struggles in the tournament’s inaugural edition

Barny Read in Sharjah29-Nov-2018Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies and Northern Warriors batsman, believes the T10 League can further increase scores in both T20s and 50-over cricket, a potential knock-on effect of cricket’s shortest format.Pooran has been a revelation this season in Sharjah and following his 43* from 18 balls on Thursday night, now has the tournament’s highest score (77), the most sixes this season (24) and is the edition’s third-highest run scorer after five games. In contrast, Pooran managed scores of 20 and 1 in his two knock last season.”The T10 League is definitely taking the game to a higher level and it is obviously going to help increase the scores in the 20-over format and the One-Day Internationals,” Pooran said after Warriors’ win over Kerala Knights.Australian James Faulkner, who plays for Maratha Arabians, also believes T10 is amplifying run-scoring and this will subsequently be felt in other formats.”I think when T20 first burst on the scene, everyone didn’t know what to expect and there was so much pressure with every ball,” he said. “Now it’s gone up a level, you can’t miss whatever delivery you’re going to bowl whether it’s a slower ball, bouncer, yorker. If you miss it’s going to be a boundary.”On Thursday, Warriors chased down 102 with 16 balls left. Yet, that is nothing for T10, as highlighted by the Warriors’ 183 for 2 earlier in the tournament, when Pooran recorded the league’s highest score.Pooran’s foreshadowing didn’t need long to find further substance as the Bengal Tigers took the night’s second match to a final ball in successfully chasing Sindhi’s target of 135.With 265 sixes and 240 fours in 20 matches so far it’s easy to see the naked ambition of the batsmen. Their aim is to clear the rope as often as possible and for Pooran it’s clearly paying off, his form absolutely rampant as we head into the final stages of the tournament. As more teams clear 400 with alarming regularity in ODIs – attributed as a knock-on from the influence of T20 cricket – you can expect more and more T20 scores to eclipse 200 and 50-over totals to continue to soar as T10 becomes a more regular fixture on the cricketing calendar.Speaking to people around the tournament over the past two weeks suggest is is a matter of time before T10 infiltrates more dates on the schedule. Bowlers, take care. It’s not safe out there and it’s not getting any safer.
