– Quero somar. Sempre ajudar o Grêmio no que for preciso.

Arsenal chiefs are now also pushing to sign £60 million striker for Arteta

Arsenal chiefs are believed to be insisting on a move to sign a £60 million centre-forward for manager Mikel Arteta, with the north Londoners looking to potentially end their long search for a classic number nine.

Edu and Arteta scouring market for new Arsenal striker

A prolific frontman has long been viewed by some as the final missing piece of Arsenal's jigsaw, and Arteta's interest in signing a new striker dates all the way back to the summer of 2023.

This time last year, Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney, and continued to be in the build-up to January. However, a lack of reports since then suggests that the England star is no longer a top target for Edu Gaspar and the wider recruitment team.

The search still goes on to find the perfect forward for Arteta, though, and a few high-profile names are rumoured to be on Edu's radar after a deal for defender Riccardo Calafiori was secured, making him the first new arrival of the summer.

Sky Sports transfer reporter Gianluca Di Marzio claimed earlier this week that Arsenal could table a bid for Napoli star Victor Osimhen, but it remains to be seen if their president Aurelio De Laurentiis will entertain bids lower than the Nigerian's £110 million release clause.

Arteta managed to cope extremely well without the presence of a star 25-plus goals per season striker over 2023/2024, with Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz bagging 51 goals between them in all competitions.

However, it remains the belief that Arteta is keen on a striking partner for Havertz, with Ajax star Brian Brobbey also attracting interest from Arsenal as a potentially cheaper Osimhen alternative.

There have also been constant links to Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres this window, coming after the Sweden international's incredible 43-goal haul across all competitions during his debut season in Portugal.

Gyokeres' deal includes an £84 million release clause, but some reports claim that Ruben Amorim's Sporting could be willing to sell for a lower fee. The Boot Room, via TEAMtalk, believe that the former Coventry City forward could depart for around £60 million.

Arsenal pushing to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon

According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, via Standard Sport [Thursday, 08:00], serious interest from the Gunners remains.

It is believed Arsenal are insisting on a move to sign Gyokeres from Sporting, with Edu and co seemingly pushing for the 26-year-old in their search for a new goalscorer. They may even face competition from north London rivals Tottenham, who also reportedly have Gyokeres on their list of striker targets for Ange Postecoglou.

“Gyokeres at Sporting Lisbon is a very interesting link,” said pundit John Wenham to Tottenham News.

“He had the experience in England with Coventry City, where he was very impressive. His overall game is good. He is big and strong, he can play on the ball and his finishing is ridiculously good.

“That would be an exciting signing."

CALENDÁRIO
Na próxima rodada, o Atlético-GO visita o Fortaleza, no estádio Castelão.

Ele invadiu a área e bateu. Fernando Miguel fez ótima e evitou que o Dragão tomasse o gol.

ATLÉTICO-GO TOMA CONTA DO JOGO E PRESSIONA

DRAGÃO ASSUSTA; DOURADO RESPONDE NO CONTRA-ATAQUE

Qais closed for Colombo Kings as Viikings are put to the sword

Six-hitting exploits seal stiff run-chase after impressive display with the ball too

Andrew Fidel Fernando11-Dec-2020Colombo Kings 205 for 4 (Evans 53, Qais 50*) beat Dambulla Viikings 203 for 3 (Perera 74*, Dickwella 65) by six wicketsHow the match played outWho needs Andre Russell when you have Qais Ahmad?Colombo Kings made an outstanding start to a chase of 204 in their near-dead rubber v Dambulla Viiking, with the in-form Laurie Evans plundering 53 off 24 to propel Kings to 72 for 1 off 6.5 overs. But when he was forced to retire hurt with what appeared to be an abdominal strain, Kings lost substantial momentum. They lost Lahiru Udara and Daniel Bell-Drummond in consecutive overs, and the run rate slowed as new batsmen set about establishing themselves through the middle overs. By the end of the 11th, the required rate had climbed to 11.44.Ashan Priyanjan, though, kept Kings ticking through that middle period, picking up frequent legside boundaries to keep the asking rate manageable. But with Russell having been rested for this game, and Angelo Mathews in woeful batting form this tournament, Kings still needed someone to provide the big final push.Enter Qais at No.7 at the beginning of the 14th over. He played himself in, taking only five runs off his first six deliveries, before hitting two confident consecutive fours off Malinda Pushpakumara in the 16th over. Kings needed 30 off the last 14 balls, so it looked like it was going down to the wire, but Qais made it a cakewalk. He would go on hit five sixes off the seven balls that followed, making sure he never lost the strike. It was devastating hitting. Lahiru Kumara was launched back into the sightscreen, and next over, Anwar Ali was brutalised – a six over long off, and two in the wide long-on/cow corner region coming off his next three deliveries. There was a yorker dot-ball in between, but the next ball was back-of-a-length, and that disappeared a distance beyond the deep square leg fence to end the match. Kings won with seven balls to spare. That six also took Qais to his first ever 50 in senior competitive cricket. It had come off 22 balls.Stars of the dayQais had also been outstanding with the ball, earlier, taking two wickets for 23 runs, as Viiking racked up what seemed like an imposing 203 for 3. Priyanjan, the batsman who kept Kings in the hunt until Qais’ finishing fireworks, made 47 not out off 24. For Viiking, Niroshan Dickwella and Angelo Perera had both struck half-centuries, the latter playing the more impressive innings, making 74 off 41.Where does this leave the teams? This final game of the LPL league stage didn’t really matter much. Viiking and Kings are both through. Kings, though, will now top the table and play Galle Gladiators who sneaked into the semi-final with just two victories in the league stage. That semi-final is the first one up, on Sunday. Viiking will play Jaffna Stallions in the second semi, on Monday.

PSL, Zimbabwe games moved from Lahore due to smog

“Cannot compromise on heath of players or officials,” says PCB chief executive

Danyal Rasool23-Oct-2020

Pakistan Super League

Lahore will no longer host the three T20I matches between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, or the four playoff games in the PSL, because of seasonal smog. The Zimbabwe matches will be moved to Rawalpindi, which means all six white-ball games in that series will take place in the same city. Karachi, meanwhile, which was not scheduled to host any international matches this month, now finds itself playing host to the remaining four PSL matches, including the final on November 17. The precise dates of the matches remain unchanged.”We have been keeping a close eye on air quality forecasts over the last two weeks,” PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said. “Following the sudden deterioration in air quality and now further expected air pollution in November, we have made a swift decision to move the matches scheduled in Lahore.”The early onset of hazardous pollution and subsequent poor air quality meant that the risk to keep matches in Lahore at this stage was too great. An early decision was made to ensure logistical challenges could be dealt with sooner rather than later. We cannot and will not compromise on the health and well-being of the players or officials.”ALSO READ: ‘Fully fit’ Chigumbura targets much-needed return to form in PakistanThis marks the second time the venue for part of the Zimbabwe series has been changed. Just a fortnight ago, logistical challenges forced the PCB to replace Multan, originally clocked in to host three games, with Lahore, with disagreement between the PCB and the city government in Multan over financial outlay. This prompted the board to decide to take the series elsewhere.Lahore has, over the past few years, faced increasingly high levels of seasonal smog in November and December, with the early onset of smog rendering the city unfit to host cricket, as scheduled, in the second week of November. The PCB usually avoids hosting matches there in November-December and prefers the southern part of the country to avoid any inconvenience. Multan, situated in southern Punjab, was part of the original plan for that reason. Smog is less of an issue for Karachi, the southern-most city in the country, thanks to the sea breeze it experiences owing to its location along the Arabian Sea.

Yorkshire appoint sub-committee to investigate Azeem Rafiq racism allegations

Prominent South Asian figures asked to join review following criticism of Yorkshire response

ESPNcricinfo staff09-Sep-2020Yorkshire has appointed a sub-committee including prominent figures in the British-Asian cricket community, as it launches its review into allegations of institutional racism from their former player Azeem Rafiq.Dr Samir Pathak, a Trustee of the MCC Foundation, has been co-opted as chair, while Gulfraz Riaz, the chairman of the National Asian Cricket Council (NACC) has also been invited to serve, along with Stephen Willis, Chief Financial Officer at Durham University, and Hanif Malik OBE, a former Non-Executive Director at Sport England. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo on September 2, Rafiq – now aged 29 and pursuing a career away from the game – told how his playing days with Yorkshire had left him “on the brink of suicide”, adding that his concerns about a racist culture within the club had been “ignored”, and that he had been released from his contract in the aftermath of a family tragedy. In the wake of Rafiq’s claims, 120 Yorkshire-based Asian businesses have written an open letter to the club, expressing their concern over the handling of the allegations and strongly requesting justice and equality.”Cricket is synonymous with both English and South Asian culture,” wrote British Asians Against Racism on change.org. “Our shared love of the sport is something which should unite our communities. It should never create divisions between us. The Asian community has strong roots in Yorkshire … however, with a fractured relationship, we fear both YCCC and young Asian cricketers will suffer adversely.”The county’s initial response to the furore had heightened the scrutiny, with Roger Pugh, the chairman of the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League launching a personal attack on Rafiq’s character in a blog post – subsequently deleted – dated September 3.The club’s appointment of the independent law firm, Squire Patton Boggs, also invited suggestions of a conflict of interest, given that Yorkshire’s chairman, Roger Hutton, is a former partner of the firm. On change.org, the wording of the petition added that “the apparent lack of independence of the investigator does not inspire confidence in the process”.However, having insisted that Hutton “no longer had any connection, personal or professional, with Squire”, Yorkshire have subsequently confirmed that the newly appointed sub-committee are satisfied with the firm’s credentials.Commenting on his appointment as Chair, Dr Pathak said: “Being of British-Indian heritage and having been born in Yorkshire, it is an honour to chair this sub-committee which will review the serious grievances raised.”There is a need for all organisations to be diverse and inclusive. My heritage means that I have a deep-rooted interest in equality within sport and society, and I aim to be as impartial as possible throughout this fair and independent investigation.”On behalf of the NACC, Mr Riaz added: “The National Asian Cricket Council is grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to what is an important review for Azeem, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the game more broadly.”In the first instance, it will be crucial to understand the precise nature of Azeem’s grievances and to ensure that following a thorough and transparent review, a suitable outcome is reached.”Beyond that, the National Asian Cricket Council looks forward to being able to contribute more holistically to recommendations that move us all closer to best practice. We feel strongly that cricket is a game for everyone.”

Spurs gifted chance to sign £23k-p/w winger for just £10m this summer

Tottenham have the chance to land an exciting new attacker this summer for just £10m, it has been reported.

Spurs keen on attacking additions

Ange Postecoglou's side have already made one addition this summer, re-loaning Timo Werner from RB Leipzig for the upcoming season. However, they remain keen on adding more firepower to their side and are expected to sign at least one more attacking player this summer.

The Spurs boss admitted as much after his side's Premier League finish saw them qualify for the Europa League next season.

"Yeah, absolutely. It's no secret. You saw the way we finished the season. We obviously lost Richy and Timo as well with injuries but we're fairly light in that area," he said. "We started last season with Manor [Solomon] and [Ivan] Perisic and we were quite healthy in that front third in terms of numbers, but as the year went on it became pretty evident that we need to bulk up.

"We're in Europe as well next year so we'll have more games and it's definitely an area of the park we'll need to strengthen."

Spurs keen on signing £70m star to partner Romero

The towering star could help tighten up the Lilywhites’ defence next season.

ByJack Salveson Holmes May 31, 2024 Edwards an option for Spurs return

Reports claim Spurs could finally pull the trigger to bring Marcus Edwards back to north London. The winger left the Lilywhites for Portugal during Mauricio Pochettino's time in charge of the club, and his stock has risen dramatically since.

He drew plenty of praise when he met his former side in the Champions League back in 2022, with the TNT Sport studio waxing lyrical about his ability.

“On the ball, dribbling at people, he’s up there [with the best]”, Owen Hargreaves explained. “He leaves people for dead. Technically he’s fantastic. The young man has so much ability with the ball at his feet, makes it look easy."

Pedro Mendes added: “He’s a fantastic little player. When he signed for Guimaraes in the first days we saw something there. Then he signed for Sporting and he just became a fantastic player. He’s been terrific.”

Now, Football.London reveal that Spurs are "keeping an eye" on his situation, with Edwards down to the final two years of his £23,000 a week deal in Portugal.

His arrival would provide a boost to their homegrown quota, while he also has a clause in his deal which will see Tottenham land a hefty discount should he arrive. That is because, when he was sold to Sporting, Spurs inserted a 50% sell on clause, which they dropped to 35% during negotiations to sign Pedro Porro in January 2023.

Now, Sporting "are understood to value him [Edwards] at £15million", but said clause would allow Spurs to snag him for just £9.75m, far less than his £22m market value [as per transfermarkt].

As it stands, Edwards is among those that are under consideration, with the report adding that there "has been no concrete approach yet from Tottenham", but he could well tick a lot of boxes for a very small fee, allowing Postecoglou to focus on other areas of his side that need strengthening.
