Ex-Chelsea ace slams Palmer critics
Blues star told he will "blossom again"
Delap link up backed to be a success

WHAT HAPPENED?
Former Chelsea and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has come to the aid of Palmer, following a difficult second half of the season where he scored just one Premier League goal from mid-January onwards. The ex-England international also believes the 23-year-old is "always a threat" and has been backed to form a good partnership with striker Delap.

WHAT WRIGHT-PHILLIPS SAID
He told Prime Casino: "I think it’s mad to say that Cole Palmer trailed off last season. I just don’t see it. I think people say it because he wasn’t scoring, but he was still creating the same amount of chances as when he was finding the back of the net himself. I don’t think he tailed off, I think it’s natural that players’ form will ebb and flow. You have those patches where everything goes in, just like there are spells where nothing will go in. Don’t forget, he can do all the work just as he always did in terms of assists, but even then he’s reliant on his strikers putting the ball in the back of the net. I think he’s still dangerous, because he can damage you in the final third, and in his own third he has that passing range to set up a goal from deep. The way he’s playing, he’s always a threat. I think Cole Palmer’s reputation is going to blossom again when he’s linking up with Liam Delap. I think Liam’s going to be putting away more chances than Nicolas Jackson. Liam’s going to improve the team overall. He can hold the ball up, he’s like a wall up front, able to bring others into play. Not only does he take chances, but he creates them for himself, and he can do everything Jackson can do, with runs in behind. Cole’s going to love that, he knows that when he sends the ball into the box, Liam will be there."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
While Palmer's first half of the season was much better than his second, he still played a crucial role in their Conference League final win over Real Betis, where he bagged two assists. Nobody can doubt the ex-City man's quality, but performing each week will be the goal for next season.

Aston Villa are now looking to beat Championship leaders Leeds United to the signing of a £20 million midfielder this summer, according to a recent report.
Emery eyeing new-look Aston Villa attack
Since the arrival of Unai Emery, Villa have been a side that have always maximised the most out of the transfer windows. It looks as though this summer is going to fall in a similar style for the Villans, as they already have their eye on several new attacking players for next season.

Last week it was reported that Emery has approved Villa chasing after Ferran Torres of Barcelona, as he feels the Spain international will fit into his attacking system. As of now, Villa have only expressed an interest in Torres, and if they want to complete a transfer, Barca are looking to get around 35 to 40 million euros.
Ademola Lookman is also another winger that is of interest to the Villans, as they keep a close eye on his situation between now and the end of the campaign.
Atalanta's AdemolaLookmanin action
The Nigeria international is expected to leave Atalanta at the end of the season, and the Midlands side are among a long list of teams keen on securing a transfer.
Chelsea’s Noni Madueke is another who has now emerged on Villa’s radar, and they are considering making an offer to sign the winger, despite the fact that AC Milan have already made a £33 million bid.
Aston Villa pushing to beat Leeds in race to sign £20m ace
It is not just attackers on Villa’s shortlist ahead of the summer, as Emery also wants to improve his midfield options. According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are interested in signing Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin this summer.
The report states that Raskin was watched by several European sides during this international break, as he received a standing ovation for his performance for Belgium in what was his first full senior start for his country. It is claimed that Rangers may struggle to keep hold of the midfielder beyond this summer, as Villa, along with Leeds and Brentford, have been left impressed by his performances in Scotland and in Europe.
There are clubs from Germany and Italy who are also taking notice of the midfielder, but Villa know already how much it will take for them to beat the opposition in this transfer race. Given Raskin is under contract until 2027, the Gers are looking to get £20 million or more for the player, who has been described as the “best midfielder” in Scotland by Rangers’ sporting director Nils Koppen.

“With his big fighting heart, he has made himself enormously popular with our fanbase. After his strong performances in the Old Firm against Celtic and in Europe against Man United, Tottenham and Fenerbahçe, he is seen by our supporters as the best midfielder in Scotland,” said Koppen.
“He is different from the other midfielders in the national team. That combination of footballing qualities with a healthy aggression makes him a unique profile.”

Assim, o futuro do atleta é incerto.
Porém, o camisa 2 é umas principais peças de Rogério Ceni, comumente escalado entre os titulares e importante para as partidas – como aconteceu contra o América-MG.

Barcelona open to offers for Ferran TorresCatalan club sets price tag of €50m Spanish forward's contract runs until 2027Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?
The 25-year-old forward has consistently delivered for Barcelona this season, scoring several clutch goals off the bench. However, with Robert Lewandowski leading the line and plenty of attacking depth in the squad, Torres is unlikely to be a regular starter next season. As a result, Barcelona are open to letting him go and, according to Fichajes, the club has set a €50 million (£42m/$56m) price tag for the Spanish forward.

Barcelona are going through a difficult phase financially. Having already faced significant challenges in trying to sign Dani Olmo last season, the club is now looking to balance the books, and selling Torres is one option on the table. However, the final decision will also depend on the player, as his contract runs until 2027.
DID YOU KNOW?
Ferran Torres moved to Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer of 2022. After a few quiet seasons with the Blaugrana, the Spaniard enjoyed his best campaign in La Liga in 2024-25, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists across 45 appearances. Notably, his goals-per-minute ratio this season is even better than Lewandowski’s, proving his growing efficiency in front of the goal.

The former Manchester City forward is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing emergency surgery for appendicitis. With Barcelona having clinched the Liga title following their win over Espanyol, Torres may have already played his final match for the Catalan club ahead of a potential summer transfer.
A “brilliant” manager is under consideration to replace Barry Ferguson as Rangers manager this summer, at which point the club is “likely to be under new ownership”, according to reliable reporter Ben Jacobs.
Ferguson gets off to perfect Rangers start with win at Kilmarnock
After 16 months at the helm, Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties as Rangers boss following a 2-0 home defeat against St Mirren, which left his side 13 points adrift of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.
In the wake of Clement’s sacking, a number of managers have been linked with moves to Ibrox, with the likes of David Wagner and Steven Gerrard being named as potential candidates for the job. However, the Gers hierarchy moved swiftly to appoint ex-player Ferguson on an interim basis, and the former captain avoided an early scare at Kilmarnock on Wednesday evening, winning his first match 4-2 courtesy of goals from Vaclav Cerny, Cyriel Dessers and Nedim Bajrami.
TalkSPORT pundit makes on-air claim about new Rangers owners' manager plans
Who will become the Gers’ next permanent boss?
ByHenry Jackson Feb 25, 2025
The 47-year-old has made it clear he will impose an attack-minded philosophy during his time in the Ibrox dugout, saying: “You are going to see a team who are going to have a certain style of play, attack-minded and we are going to try to win every single game.
“We are going to be aggressive, which was a part of my game as well and I don’t mean by going and tackling people, but I mean aggressive in the press.”
It remains to be seen whether the Scot’s attacking philosophy is able to win over the Rangers faithful and convince the board to give him the full time gig, but a four-goal haul at Killie is a great start.
Taking to X however, the reliable Jacobs has stated Derek McInnes is “under consideration” to replace Ferguson in the summer, at which point the Gers are “likely to be under new ownership”, with 49ers Enterprises in line to take over.
Kilmarnock manager DerekMcInnestalks to Robbie Deas
McInnes famously came close to replacing Pedro Caixinha in the dugout back in 2017, verbally accepting the deal job before being talked out of it by Dave King.
"Brilliant" McInnes impressing at Kilmarnock
The 53-year-old has developed quite a reputation in Scotland, spending almost eight years at Aberdeen between 2013 and 2021, and pushing Celtic nearly all the way in the title race during the 2015-16 season.
During his time with the Dons, the Paisley-born coach also lifted the Scottish League Cup in 2014, one of three trophies he’s won in his career, having won the Scottish Championship on two occasions.
Brendan Rodgers has described the Scottish coach as “absolutely brilliant”, and there are signs he could do a good job at Ibrox, given his success with Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, leading the club to a fourth-place finish last season, in what was their first campaign after winning promotion.
That said, if Rangers are going to bridge the gap to Rodgers’ Celtic, they could do with a manager with more experience of competing for major honours, rather than appointing a coach with no experience in a top job.

Champions League qualification is currently in the hands of Nottingham Forest. They are not on the cusp yet but are in an excellent position with over half of the season complete. The men in Garibaldi Red are third in the Premier League with 44 points, with six points the gap between them and Newcastle United in fifth place.
There have been some exceptional performances from Nuno Espirito Santo’s men this season. Perhaps their best player has been striker Chris Wood, who has 14 goals in 22 Premier League appearances so far this term.
Now, with the January transfer window in full flow, the East Midlands club are targeting attacking reinforcements and could make a shock move for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha.
Nottingham Forest’s shock Cunha move
If Forest were able to secure the services of Cunha, it would be a surprising deal indeed. According to a report from the Mail, they have the Brazilian ‘at the top of their January shopping list’ and could try and sign him despite interest from other Premier League sides.
Matheus Cunha
It has been another fantastic season for Cunha, as Wolves struggle in the Premier League and are in a fight to save their top-flight status. He has ten goals and four assists in 21 games for the Old Gold this term.
Perhaps’ Cunha’s best game in the 2024/25 campaign came against Fulham in a shock 4-1 win for Wolves at Craven Cottage. He scored twice and grabbed an assist as the West Midlands club got a crucial three points in London.
There is no doubt that this would be a brilliant coup for Forest. Not only would they be signing a proven Premier League star, but they would be bringing in a player from a Midlands rival.
However, there is an argument to suggest they don’t need to make this transfer, with someone at the club already being their own version of Cunha.
Nottingham Forest's very own Matheus Cunha
The player in question here is Forest number 10 Morgan Gibbs-White. The England international also made the move to the City Ground from Molineux, for a hefty fee of £42.5m including add-ons.
Morgan Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest.
It is fair to say that there is no love lost between Gibbs-White and the Wolves fans. They made their feelings known during the most recent clash between the sides at Molineux, which Forest won 3-0. Gibbs-White opened the scoring, and his celebration in front of the Wolves fans said it all, putting his fingers in his ears.
During his time at the City Ground, the England international has really impressed. He has 15 goals and 22 assists in 98 games and has previously been described as a “magician” by football statistician Statman Dave. This term, he has eight goals and assists in the Premier League.
Typically, Gibbs-White has played in behind the striker, Wood, and has formed an exceptional partnership with the New Zealander. They have combined for six goals in 58 games together, in what has proven to be a really fruitful partnership.
This does beg the question of whether Forest need Cunha. It seems unlikely that the Gibbs-White and Wood partnership will be broken, so it is not necessarily obvious where he will fit in.
The statistics via Squawka also show that the Forest man and the Brazilian are not really too dissimilar. For example, Gibbs-White averages 0.6 goals and assists per 90 minutes compared to 0.9 for Cunha, and plays 12.7 forward passes as opposed to Cunha’s 9.3 each game.

Forest’s number 10 was valued at £60m as recently as May 2024, showing his importance to Nuno’s side. There is certainly a question as to if they need to sign Cunha based on that, or do the men in Garibaldi Red actually have their answer to the Wolves star, in Gibbs-White.

Nottingham Forest are hoping to make a real top-four push
Still looking to sign a central defender this month, Aston Villa have now reportedly been offered the chance to sign a La Liga defender who scored a vital goal in the Champions League this week.
Aston Villa transfer news
The Villans certainly haven’t been shy on the transfer front so far this month, securing the signature of Donyell Malen and then Levante right-back Andres Garcia. Both arrivals will be interesting to watch, particularly if the latter jumps ahead of Matty Cash in the pecking order to become Unai Emery’s starting right-back at Villa Park for the remainder of the season and beyond.
Revealing his admiration for Emery, Garcia told the official club website after putting pen to paper: “He (Emery) is a coach I’ve been following for a long time, because he has an amazing career.
“He’s been with various Spanish teams, which has allowed me to watch some of his games with his previous clubs, like Sevilla and Valencia. I’ve seen lots of him.
“He’s a coach that teaches his players a lot, full of determination. When he has an idea, he won’t stop until he fulfils it. And I think we have things in common, especially how we work, so I think he’s going to be a coach that teaches me a lot, and I’m excited to play my part, of course.”
Aston Villa battling to sign "skilful" Bade alternative to replace Carlos
He’s got unfinished business in the Premier League…
ByTom Cunningham Jan 22, 2025
With over a week left until the January transfer window slams shut, however, Garica may not be the final name through the door. According to Graeme Bailey for The Boot Room, Aston Villa have now been offered the chance to sign Eric Garcia this month following the defender’s fall down the Barcelona pecking order.
The former Manchester City man would be bowing out having enjoyed one last moment to savour after scoring the equaliser to level things up at 4-4 in the 86th minute of a sensational 5-4 victory for Barcelona against Benfica in the Champions League earlier this week.
"Smart" Garcia could become Bade alternative
Amid reports that Aston Villa could now walk away from a deal to sign Sevilla’s Loic Bade, Garcia could emerge to become an ideal alternative. Still just 24 years old, the central defender already has Premier League experience and a Premier League medal to his name after rising through the ranks at Manchester City before leaving for Barcelona.
Eric Garcia for Barcelona.
It was during his time at The Etihad that Garcia earned instant praise from Pep Guardiola too, with the Spaniard saying via Bleacher Report following the defender’s debut: “He is a guy who has a lot of sense of the position. He is so smart; he is not the strongest in the air with the headers, he is not the fastest one, but few times do the opposition win one position where he is. He is able to guide the line and has a lot of personality to play—good vision, good passing.“
Now, Manchester City’s previous loss could quickly become Aston Villa’s gain as they look to continue what has already been an excellent January transfer window.
