Cooper must now sell Leicester man who earns 2x more than Dewsbury-Hall

Leicester City will be fairly confident that they can adjust back to the Premier League well after the crushing blow of relegation greeted them at the end of the 2022/23 top-flight season.

Steve Cooper does have his work cut to prove to Foxes fans that he is the right man to lead them back up to the top league, having only mustered up 11 wins from 54 Premier League games as a manager to date.

steve-cooper-nottingham-forest-premier-league-transfers

Yet, he could become an instantly more likeable figure in his new surroundings by sealing some exciting signings and clearing out the deadwood.

That even includes a Foxes star who was brought to the Midlands for an eye-watering £15m sum.

Souttar's time at Leicester

The overpriced player in question is former Stoke City centre-back Harry Souttar, who left behind the Potters in 2023 for Leicester, hoping he could become a Premier League calibre star at the back.

This move just hasn't worked out whatsoever for the towering Australia international though, who has ended up amassing just 16 games in total over two full campaigns now, with ex-Foxes boss Enzo Maresca handing him just three league appearances on the way to Leicester's promotion triumph, before heading off to Chelsea.

Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.

It's been a sharp decline for a defender who had shone up and down the EFL before this big step-up to the top flight proved too much, with his reputation taking even more of a bruising in the East Midlands by Maresca freezing him out of his starting lineups.

Cooper will look to offload the Foxes dud as a result, but this could prove to be a challenge, owing to the newly promoted side no doubt wanting to recoup some of the wild £15m they splashed out on Souttar just a year ago.

There has been interest from the likes of Rangers up in Scotland previously, who must be paying close attention to his performances for Australia over his lack of club minutes, and Leicester will snap any suitor's hand off for wanting to sign their on-the-fringes defender, who is also on a hefty wage, according to Capology.

Souttar's wage at Leicester

Souttar is currently on a handsome £40k-per-week pay packet at the King Power, despite only being gifted one league start over the entire Championship season that just finished.

That means he was earning double Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's wages last season, which will flabbergast those with connections to the recent second-tier title winners, considering Dewsbury-Hall's fantastic campaign really helped the Foxes take the division by storm.

The 25-year-old attack-minded midfielder will arguably feel the most aggrieved from the above list, with the homegrown Foxes gem accumulating 27 goals and assists from 49 total games last season, which could see him become a target for many a Premier League suitor again soon.

Despite Liverpool once being touted as his next destination and Brighton also now eyeing up a move for the midfielder, Souttar is remarkably earning double his pay packet. Cooper clearly now needs to sort out the wage bill, which could lead to the forgotten centre-back being moved on shortly.

With the likes of Dennis Praet and Kelechi Iheanacho already being released, who earned £75k-per-week and £80k-per-week respectively, Souttar could be the next to follow out of the door.

But, Leicester will be hopeful at least they can get some money back for their dud, to at least get somewhat of a happy ending out of such an uninspiring buy.

Mohammad Hafeez, Haider Ali shine as Pakistan seal narrow win to level series

Moeen Ali’s 33-ball 61 in vain as England fall short in last-ball finish

Pakistan 190 for 4 (Hafeez 86*, Haider 54, Jordan 2-29) beat England 185 for 8 (Moeen 61, Riaz 2-26) by five runsA 100-run partnership between two men two decades apart in age saw Pakistan eke out their first win of the tour on the day before they are due to return home. It denied England a sixth consecutive T20I series win, while Pakistan pick up a first away win in any format since the ODI World Cup last year. The 39-year old Mohammad Hafeez was the standout star of the win, caressing an unbeaten 52-ball 86 to power his side to 190, while a valiant fightback, spearheaded by Moeen Ali’s 33-ball 61, fell just five shy of powering England to a stunning win.It was a series that came down to the final ball, quite literally, and when Tom Curran lifted Haris Rauf for a gorgeous six over extra cover off the penultimate delivery, England needed one more such blow to seal a series win. Babar Azam panicked, while a swarm of fielders rushed to pester the fast bowler with all kinds of advice. He blocked it all out and sent down an unplayable yorker at 90mph to secure the win, the final two balls a microcosm of Pakistan on tour, and Pakistan in general. One minute down, next minute up.It was Hafeez, perhaps unfairly lumped in with Shoaib Malik as an example of the visitors’ failure to adopt modern T20 practices, who provided the ballast to get the innings back on track after a faltering start. With Moeen having removed Fakhar Zaman early, and Curran knocking Babar’s stumps back soon after, England were enjoying the perfect Powerplay. Hafeez stablised the innings while Haider Ali, with the impudence of youth, went hell for leather, but once he lofted Adil Rashid for a six over midwicket, he roared straight into top gear. Helped, at times, by England bowling to his strengths and missing their lengths, Hafeez plundered 69 off the next 34 balls to spearhead the innings, taking them to within touching distance of the total that proved just short on Sunday.Pakistan began this tour two months ago in a protective bubble, but when, on the final day, they removed the bubble-wrap off their youngest squad member, they discovered quite the player residing within. Haider began his T20I career looking like a man who knew how this format needed to be played, clearing his front leg off the second ball he faced, depositing it over cow corner. Time and again, when England appeared to set a field willing to yield a single to him in that area, he declined the deal, opting to go over the top instead. Having sat out and watched England ease to a target of 195 two days ago, he didn’t need complex statistical information to recognise a boundary would be handier than a single. Within no time, he had become the first Pakistani to score a half-century on debut, one that came in just 28 balls.Wahab Riaz gets a hug•AFP

Pakistan decided to leave out Mohammad Rizwan, so often sensational behind the stumps, in favour of Sarfaraz Ahmed, for a greater perceived ability with the bat. But while he didn’t feature in the first innings, but when a key moment arose, Sarfaraz froze. Quite literally, and somewhat inexplicably, when Shadab fooled the out-of-form Moeen to leave him stranded outside his crease, Sarfaraz failed to gather properly. Time stood still as Moeen looked back and watched helplessly, waiting to see the bails whipped off, while Sarfaraz appeared to cradle the ball, unable to get it to his hands, and then to the stumps. With England so far behind in the game, it seemed like a comedic footnote. When Moeen stormed to a half-century half an hour later, no one in green was grinning. While the defeat might sting, Moeen’s return to form may yet prove the biggest positive for England. When, in the 16th over, he hit three sixes in four balls off Shadab, expending less energy than it presumably takes most people to butter bread, the idea this was a man out of form and bereft of confidence stretched credulity. When he displayed his T20 smarts with a couple of sneakily stolen boundaries off Shaheen Afridi in the 18th, to bring England within touching distance of victory, he seemed indispensable. Now, he may well be.England’s first ten overs with the bat, though, was perhaps what cost them most dearly. With the game being played on a fresh pitch and a very short boundary on one side, the hosts would have fancied a chase of 191, but that became significantly more challenging when Afridi bowled Jonny Bairstow with a perfect outswinging yorker that took the base of the off stump with it. Dawid Malan fell trying to clear the square leg boundary, only for Fakhar Zaman to pluck it out of the air on tiptoe, but Tom Banton kept the momentum going. With his captain Eoin Morgan, he struck up the sort of partnership that might have put them back on track, notably never letting the normally economical Imad Wasim settle, spanking four fours off his first seven balls. It would all end horribly, though, with Morgan, in the form of his career, dismissed in the worst possible way. Brilliant work in the circle saw Azam cut off what should have been a boundary, and Morgan, cantering towards the other end, found himself stranded mid-pitch. It put even more pressure on Banton to ensure he went deep, but he fell five balls later to Haris Rauf, trapped in front and ruled lbw on review. It meant asking a shade too much of the lower order, even if, on a tour where social distancing dominated the conversation, England got uncomfortably close.

Spurs must axe Conte signing who’s now half as valuable as Werner

Tottenham Hotspur have had mixed luck regarding transfers in recent seasons. The likes of Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario and even James Maddison have come in and generally improved the team to varying degrees.

However, on the flipside, the club have also welcomed in players such as Emerson Royal, Giovani Lo Celso, and Tanguy Ndombele, who certainly haven't raised the bar at the club.

That said, there is one signing who first looked as if he was going to belong to the first camp before quickly making his way over to the second, and as things stand, his value has plunged to be half of Timo Werner's, which is hardly a positive sign.

Spurs forward Timo Werner

Therefore, it's time the club cut their losses and move on before his value craters further.

Yves Bissouma's Tottenham Career

The player in question is Mali international Yves Bissouma, who moved to Antonio Conte's Spurs in the summer of 2022 for a fee of around £25m after impressing at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Yves Bissouma

Unfortunately for all involved, despite his record at the Amex, the 27-year-old's first season in north London was disastrous for a couple of reasons.

First, despite signing him in the summer, it appeared as if Conte didn't trust him. In the 28 appearances he made across all competitions in 2022/23, only 12 of them were starts.

To make things even worse, halfway through the campaign, he broke his ankle and missed 17 games for club and country.

Luckily for the Issia-born ace, the former Chelsea boss was sacked before the end of the season and replaced with Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

Yves Bissouma for Tottenham

The Australian clearly had a higher opinion of the midfielder as he started him for the first eight league games of this year, but in the eighth game, he got himself sent off for diving, for which former player Dean Ashton slammed him as being "ridiculous."

Since then, the midfielder's performances have declined, and according to Times journalist Tom Allnutt, Ange might've finally lost faith in him.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way Podcast, the journalist said, "I've heard a couple of whispers about Bissouma that he's not the right fit for Ange in terms of his personality and his play."

In all, the former LOSC Lille ace has made 56 appearances for the Lilywhites since joining two years ago, and with how this year has gone, he's unlikely to make too many more, which has understandably impacted his value.

Yves Bissouma's valuation in 2024

According to the CIES Football Observatory, Bissouma is now worth just €15m, which converts to about £13m, or £12m less than the club paid to sign him in 2022.

santiago-gimenez-timo-werner-tottenham-opinion

It also means that Werner, whom the CIES Football Observatory prices at €30m – £26m – is currently twice as valuable as the former Brighton ace, even though he has scored just four goals and provided four assists in 28 appearances for Spurs and RB Leipzig this season.

That said, the German's valuation is probably helped by the fact that there are genuine rumours about him signing a permanent deal with the north Londoners in the summer, as opposed to rumours about him being axed.

The incredible talent has a bright future ahead of him.

ByJack Salveson Holmes May 10, 2024

Ultimately, Bissouma was a great player for the Seagulls, but for whatever reason, it has not worked out with Tottenham. The fact that his value has already plunged so dramatically is just extra evidence that the club should be doing their best to sell him this summer before it falls even further.

Aston Villa represent tempting offer for £34m star who is similar to Hakimi

Aston Villa's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League were given a huge boost as they beat Arsenal 2-0 away from home in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Villans are now sitting fourth in the division and are on course to qualify for Europe's premier cup competition, whilst they are still competing to win the Europa Conference League this season.

Whilst there is still plenty to play for domestically and in Europe before the end of the current campaign, Monchi and Unai Emery already have one eye on the upcoming summer transfer window.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery

The Villa duo are looking at players to bolster the squad, possibly with Champions League football in mind, and one star is said to be tempted by a move to the club.

£34m star linked with Aston Villa move

According to the printed edition of Il Mattino, via Calcio Napoli 24, Aston Villa are interested in a summer swoop for Napoli right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The report claims that the Villans are keen to bring the Italy international over to England ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and that their interest represents an 'important offer' to the defender, as Emery looks to improve his defence.

It states that the 30-year-old ace, who was linked with a move to Newcastle United last year, is considering his future in Naples and the prospect of a move to the Premier League is tempting him at this moment in time.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo

Il Mattino reports that Di Lorenzo is thinking very carefully about his future, with Villa now hoping to convince him to make the switch to the English top flight this summer.

Earlier this week, FCInterNews reported that Napoli are set to demand a sizeable fee of €40m (£34m) for the Villans target, and it remains to be seen whether or not Monchi and Emery are prepared to meet that figure.

Why Aston Villa should sign Giovanni Di Lorenzo

The experienced star has been a fantastic performer for the Italian giants in the Serie A this season and could add an attacking threat to Villa's side down the right flank.

FBref lists Paris Saint-Germain dynamo Achraf Hakimi, who is a reported target for Manchester City this summer, as one of the most similar players to Di Lorenzo across the Men's Big 5 Leagues over the last 365 days, and that is due to their respective quality in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, Di Lorenzo and Hakimi have both outperformed current Villa right-back Matty Cash when it comes to creating chances for teammates from a full-back position.

In fact, the Napoli star ranks within the top 7% of full-backs in the Men's Top 5 Leagues and European competitions over the last 365 days for shot-creating actions (3.30) per 90, whilst the PSG speedster ranks in the top 3% with 3.95 per 90 – illustrating their similarities on the pitch.

ByHenry Jackson Apr 17, 2024

These statistics suggest that the £34m-rated ace would improve Emery's attack by adding a creative threat from right-back, which is why Villa should look to get a deal over the line for the Italian whiz, who is seemingly tempted by the move.

Manager who has already held Man Utd talks now in line to replace Ten Hag

A manager who Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already spoken with is reportedly now being lined up to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Man Utd manager rumours

The Red Devils haven’t had a successful season so far, sitting sixth in the Premier League, being knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage and failing to defend the EFL Cup.

However, United and Ten Hag are still competing in the FA Cup and are preparing to take on Coventry City in the semi-final at Wembley.

There is still something to play to salvage the season, but there has been plenty of speculation over who could possibly take over from Ten Hag ahead of Ratcliffe’s first full season as co-owner.

Man Utd want 4-2-3-1 manager who plays “sublime football” to oust Ten Hag

The Red Devils have concrete interest in him.

ByHenry Jackson Apr 3, 2024

Recent claims have suggested Ten Hag’s future is a 50/50 call at this moment in time, with initial talks already held with Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. England boss Gareth Southgate has also been linked as a candidate alongside Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou who is another mooted option. Surprisingly, Brentford’s Thomas Frank has been named as another top target.

However, it is a boss who Ratcliffe has been linked with previously who has been making waves in the media once again.

Graham Potter in line for Man Utd job with Ten Hag resigned to sack

According to The Sun’s Neil Custis, a number of Man Utd players believe that Ten Hag has resigned himself to the sack at the end of the season. It is believed that the Dutchman has changed in recent weeks, with Ratcliffe failing to give him the vote of confidence in public.

Another manager to be linked with a move to Old Trafford over the last six months has been Graham Potter. The former Chelsea boss has already spoken with Ratcliffe and recently turned down the job at Ajax, with Custis now again saying Potter is in line to take over.

Graham Potter as Chelsea manager

The 48-year-old has now been out of work for over a year after parting ways at Stamford Bridge. He did come in for praise at the start of his Chelsea tenure from Darren Bent, who said: "What Graham Potter is doing there with the Chelsea players and the English contingent is fantastic and it bodes well for England.

“All he can do is get the players playing well, playing to his system and I still think there’s more to come. If you watch the game against Villa you have to say that they didn’t look at their best. It was two goalkeeping mistakes but they still got a result."

It was Potter’s work at Brighton that caught the eye of Chelsea, playing an attractive style of football, and you’d expect the 3-4-2-1 manager has been hard at work over the last 12 months ahead of a return to the dugout.

It looks as if a move to Old Trafford for Potter is one to keep an eye on once more, with Ratcliffe a huge fan.
