The Spanish Football Federation have officially rejected Barcelona's attempts to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in a momentous decision.

Barcelona have been attempting to register Olmo and Victor for weeks but their attempts have now been officially rejected by the RFEF and La Liga. It is a crushing blow, and means they may now have to enter into complicated legal proceedings as they attempt to plead their case. has reported that is their plan, but the pair may also seek pastures new if they are not able to play for the remainder of the season, which is the case presently.

Olmo's agent has admitted it is a "stressful situation" for his client, but he has maintained that the Spain international has no intention of leaving the club. He had scored five goals in 11 games but now faces being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. It is unclear if La Liga and RFEF's decision to officially reject his registration will spark a change in attitude. He has been linked with Manchester City and Liverpool.

WHAT THE RFEF SAID

In a statement, the RFEF said: "The RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement Monitoring Committee has met to address the request for a prior visa and processing of the federation licenses of the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado, submitted by FC Barcelona.

"After the requirements regarding LaLiga's economic control were met by FCB on January 3, 2025, and once the relevant documentation was completed by the club, the LaLiga Budget Validation Body has resolved to extend the FC Barcelona Sports Squad Cost Limit from the aforementioned date.

"In this regard, having requested the licenses for the aforementioned players by FC Barcelona and after analyzing the applicable federation regulations, the Monitoring Committee agrees not to grant the prior visa or the definitive license requested by FC Barcelona for the players Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado in accordance with the literal interpretation of articles 130.2 and 141.5 of the General Regulations of the RFEF that prevent a player whose license is cancelled from, during the course of the same season, obtaining a license in the same club team to which he was already linked."

Likely, a lengthy legal battle. Barcelona spent around £50 million ($62m) to sign Olmo in the summer and now face the prospect of not being able to play him. It is unclear how long that will last.

Over the last couple of weeks, countless names have been thrown into the mix as Nottingham Forest aim to secure a new striker before Friday’s transfer deadline.

On the face of it, it may seem harsh that the club are looking for new options after Chris Wood registered 14 Premier League goals last campaign, but it’s a signal of ambition from owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Eddie Nketiah appeared the most likely at one stage, but after failing to agree personal terms with the Arsenal ace, a deal fell through, with the Englishman now set for a move to Crystal Palace.

Vitor Roque is another name that has previously been mentioned, but after his loan move to Spanish side Real Betis, the Reds have to continue their hunt with just a couple of days left in the window.

As a result, they may turn to one target who has previously been the subject of interest from Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest's search for a striker

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest have now set their sights on Ajax striker Brian Brobbey before Friday’s deadline.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign in Eredivisie during 2023/24, registering 18 goals and eight assists, before receiving a call-up to the Netherlands national side for Euro 2024.

The report states that Forest are desperate to land a new centre-forward before the deadline, with the Ajax man the latest player on the club’s radar after their failure to sign Nketiah last week.

However, Brobbey would be an expensive addition for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, with previous reports claiming that the Dutch side value the youngster at around the £30m mark.

His goalscoring record would make him a phenomenal addition, but also his all-round play is suited to the Reds’ current system, making him a perfect alternative to another current target.

Why Brobbey would be the perfect Gimenez alternative

The saga over a potential move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has been ongoing for numerous days, with various reports claiming different things over a potential move to the City Ground.

Forest have had three separate bids rejected for the Mexican international, but journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed yesterday that the club are still trying to secure a deal for the 23-year-old.

It would be a deal in the region of €33m (£28m) for Gimenez, a respectable fee given his tally of 29 combined goals and assists in the Eredivisie last season.

However, the club still remain in the race for Brobbey, with the Ajax talent potentially being a better option for the Reds than Gimenez.

The “exceptional” Dutchman, as described by scout Antonio Mango, may have registered fewer goal contributions last season, but did manage to achieve a higher shot-on-target rate than the Mexican, making him more efficient with his chances in the final third.

He also contributed with more shot-creating actions per 90 whilst winning more aerial duels, providing that target man and aerial threat that Nuno likes in his centre-forwards.

Brobbey also achieved a higher pass accuracy rate, whilst completing more of the take-ons he attempted, demonstrating his quality at the ball at his feet – a crucial attribute to fit into the club’s transition into a more possession-based side.

Whilst Gimenez undoubtedly remains the club’s top target, with just a couple of days left in the window, they are running out of time to secure a deal for a player who will take the Reds to the next level.

Brobbey has demonstrated in the Netherlands that he has all the tools to thrive in the Premier League, with his bulldozing nature a problem for any defender who tries to stand his way.

£30m could be a good price for the youngster, who’s proven his goalscoring ability, whilst also having the potential to improve further in the East Midlands.

وواصل: “مسؤولو اتحاد الكرة وجهوا نصيحة لنادي الزمالك، بأن منع مشاركة ميشالاك في التدريبات الجماعية سيتسبب في أزمة كبيرة للزمالك في حالة شكوى اللاعب لدى فيفا”.

واختتم: “الأفضل هو فسخ التعاقد بشكل ودي، وهذا الكلام الذي نعرفه، والزمالك ليس في حاجة لمشكلة جديدة”.

Archie Gray was perhaps the most regrettable of them all, with Leeds releasing a heartfelt statement after their decision to sell the English sensation to Tottenham for around £40 million with Joe Rodon coming the other way.

Farke personally wants Leeds to sign Gabriel Sara

The Yorkshire side have been linked with one pretty exciting addition regularly in Norwich City attacker Gabriel Sara.

Sara, who bagged 14 goals and 13 assists across 53 appearances in all competitions last season for the Canaries, stood out as David Wagner's superstar player on their run to the Championship play-off semi-finals – where they were beaten by Leeds.

According to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey, Farke personally wants Leeds to do a deal for Sara, but it won't be easy, as Norwich value the Brazilian at around £20 million.

"Everyone can see his ability but he is now controlling games. He’s everywhere off the ball," said former Norwich City boss Kenny McLean last year.

"That was a big thing when the new manager came in and he was really drumming that into him to be more aggressive, get against people and he is doing that. It was just consistency with him. For me, right now, he is the full package."

The lack of fresh faces hasn't stopped Slot's first pre-season from going to plan, either. The Dutchman has overseen friendly victories over Real Betis and Premier League rivals Arsenal, during which Liverpool fans got a potential glimpse of what he's asking his new side to do.

That's not to say that fresh faces won't be on their way, with fresh reports suggesting the exact opposite. According to Sportmediaset via TuttoJuve, Liverpool are expected to submit an offer for Teun Koopmeiners in the coming days in a deal that would see them sign a midfielder who previously worked under Slot at AZ Alkmaar.

Previous reports indicated that Atalanta have set a hefty price tag of £50m for the Dutchman, which would undoubtedly kickstart the Reds' transfer window just before the Premier League campaign gets underway. Following rumours that Wataru Endo has been attracting the interest of Marseille, who even saw a bid rejected, those at Anfield may well be in need of a midfield addition this summer. And Koopmeiners would certainly be an impressive coup.

Although Koopmeiners' main position is attacking midfield, his ability to play in both central and defensive midfield means that he could emerge to replace Endo in the long term. The numbers instantly highlight Koopmeiners' versatility, managing to match Endo defensively whilst also adding an attacking element that the current Liverpool midfielder lacks.

Described as "complete" by analyst Ben Mattinson, the Atalanta man could be the final piece of the Reds' midfield rebuild and the key to the perfect debut season for Slot at Anfield. Having worked with the Dutchman before, it would feel somewhat fitting that Koopmeiners emerges to finally kickstart Liverpool's summer less than two weeks until the Premier League campaign gets underway.

All eyes will be on Slot's first Premier League game against Ipswich Town, which may yet feature a fresh face in the form of Koopmeiners.

Guardiola has set a very high standard for teams competing at the top end of the table, but it is a level which Arteta and co are determined to match as they seek to upgrade the Arsenal squad over these coming weeks.

Arsenal have been in talks to sign Bologna starlet Riccardo Calafiori to bolster their defence, and Edu has been widely tipped to bring in a new forward as well as a new midfielder.

The 22-year-old Calafiori fits into Edu's mould of an energetic prospective new addition with many years ahead of him, as the Brazilian made an admission on Arsenal's transfer plans in February.

"I understand what the fans are asking for but we already have our targets,” Edu said on TNT Sports.

“We have planned a lot ahead and I will be worried if we don’t score a lot of goals and if we’re not creating chances, which is the opposite because we create a lot and score a lot of goals. The plan is to try to get better every year and I think we are in a good moment. Let's see if we can keep improving.

“Many times in certain conversations to recruit the players you don't see the character of the player or the character of the player does not fit well with what we are trying to do and then you have to move on and try to find what we’re really looking for.

“If you see all the signings we’ve made since we started together, everyone is almost the same, young, energetic and passionate, and good talents with big, beautiful futures ahead of them.”

Another player who fits the bill in this respect is highly-rated Ajax sensation Tommy Setford, with the England Under-20 international now attracting serious interest from the Emirates.

Romano, taking to X, has shared an update on the "big talent" and his future in Amsterdam as the goalkeeper's contract expires next year.
