Everton are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Gabon international Denis Bouanga this summer.
According to a report from Le10 Sport (via Sportslens), the Blues are keen on bringing the Saint-Etienne man to Goodison Park in the upcoming transfer window.
Bouanga is reportedly valued at €15m (£13.4m), which is a bargain for a player of his calibre. Fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes are also interested in the forward, although a bidding war is unlikely.
The 25-year-old has had a blistering season in France this term, tallying a total of 12 goals and five assists across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). It has hardly been a fluke season either, as Bouanga notched eight goals and three assists for former club Nimes Olympique before Saint-Etienne snapped him up last summer.
It is uncertain whether the French outfit will be willing to cash in after just one season but the Blues could have their man if they meet the asking price.
For an estimated £13.4m, signing a clinical playmaker like Bouanga is a no-brainer for Everton. He would provide some serious competition for Richarlison or potentially even usurp the Brazilian as Carlo Ancelotti’s first choice centre-forward.
This season, Bouanga has played fewer games in the league but has the same amount of goals and assists as the Blues’ number seven (10 goals, three assists). The Gabonese attacker has also averaged more dribbles per game (2.2) and has better passing accuracy (72.5%) than Richarlison’s 1.8 and 66% respectively (via WhoScored).
The two players are extremely similar in terms of positional versatility and career goal contributions with Bouanga tallying 55 goals and 21 assists and Richarlison just behind on 51 goals and 22 assists (via Transfermarkt). There isn’t much to separate the two attackers, which is what could make for a very entertaining friendly scrap for their spot in the starting XI.
Bounaga is also available at a fraction of the price of what the club spent on Richarlison. For less than £15m, the Blues would be foolish not to pursue a move for the Gabon international.
What’s your take, Everton fans? Would you like to see Denis Bouanga join the Blues this summer? Have your say in the comments below…
A lot of Celtic fans were left querying one aspect of Neil Lennon’s team selection ahead of their match on Wednesday night.
The Hoops’ official Twitter channel @CelticFC revealed the starting XI for the trip to Tynecastle 75 minutes before kick-off, with the left-back selection a talking point among many supporters.
With Boli Bolingoli omitted after only recently returning from injury, Jonny Hayes was given the nod to start at left-back, with Greg Taylor named among the substitutes as Celtic proceeded to defeat Hearts 2-0.
Hayes has now made five starts at left-back this season, although the Republic of Ireland international has played as a wide midfielder or winger for the majority of his career.
Meanwhile, Taylor is a natural left-back who was signed from Kilmarnock on deadline day in September but has so far struggled for minutes at Celtic, making just five appearances since his move to Parkhead.
These Hoops fans on Twitter were not best pleased with Hayes being selected ahead of Taylor for the left-back slot when they saw the starting line-up:
Do you think Taylor should have started instead of Hayes against Hearts? How did you rate Hayes’ performance on the night? Comment below with your views!
Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left contemplating the possibility of Mauricio Pochettino rocking up at Arsenal for the last few weeks.
Fresh from his sacking as Spurs boss, the Gunners sacked Unai Emery and reports have suggested that he is seen as a viable option to take over.
However, a new Daily Telegraph report claims that any club wishing to appoint Pochettino will have to deal directly with Daniel Levy and pay compensation to Spurs.
Essentially, he has been placed on gardening leave, meaning that the club would be due a fee if he moved to another club before the summer, be it in England or in Europe.
And supporters have been reacting to the news in their droves.
A number of fans have taken it upon themselves to praise Levy for the way he has conducted the business.
Other fans have taken the opportunity to poke fun at the fact that Arsenal are now unlikely to appoint Pochettino, who guided the club to the Champions League final and also mounted two Premier League title challenges.

One has to say that, if this is true, it is a truly superb piece of business from the Spurs chairman, who has essentially ensured that Pochettino won’t be lining up against his side in 2019/20.
Meanwhile, Spurs have a rival in the chase to sign a former Premier League flop.

Harry Kane has to leave Tottenham Hotspur to win trophies.
This is a truth almost universally acknowledged by those outside of Tottenham Hotspur.
Even Tim Sherwood, the club’s former manager, said this week that the England international would give it until the end of next season before packing his bag and leaving, provided the club’s trophy drought continued.
They last lifted silverware in 2008, winning the League Cup at Wembley at Chelsea’s expense. That is despite reaching a Champions League final and another League Cup final under the management of Mauricio Pochettino. Two title challenges also came, ultimately, to nothing.
And isn’t that what this game is about, really; glory; trophies; medals; baubles that can go in a cabinet, to be reminisced over when a player is retired?
Well, no. Not really.
[ad_pod ]
This game is about love, really, and when one examines the best one-club men in history, a common thread appears – a lack of trophies.
Francesco Totti, perhaps the greatest Italian footballer of his generation, won one Serie A title during his time at Roma. Matt Le Tissier, a hero even of Barcelona icon Xavi, never won a single medal at Southampton. Think too of the likes of Ledley King at Spurs – that solitary League Cup is his only medal yet he was perhaps one of the finest centre-backs in Premier League history – and Bill Nicholson, the legendary manager of the club, who won the First Division just once as a player but was the mastermind behind the team that won the double.
Both of the latter are revered to this day at Spurs, with King’s famous quote, “This is my club, my one and only club”, etched into the club’s stadium signage.
Kane could have that.
Of course, he’s world-class and a striker that would walk into pretty much any team in world football. He has scored 177 goals in 270 appearances. He is England’s captain and perhaps the best forward this country has produced since Alan Shearer. He could even break the Newcastle United legend’s Premier League goalscoring record.
Back in 2015, after Kane had burst onto the scene by scoring 21 league goals in his first full season at the club, Telegraph journalist Jason Burt asked him why he had chosen to take the No.10 shirt.
“I want to become a club legend”, was the reply.
He is well on course.
If he can help Spurs win some silverware along the way, then that will be all the better but the truth of the matter is this: It doesn’t really matter.
What does matter is staying power, is proving to a fanbase that you and they are the same, that you share the same hopes and the same dreams and that you share some magical moments along the way.
Le Tissier did that at Southampton. Totti did it at Roma. King did it at Spurs.
Kane could be the next in line, regardless of whether or not a winners’ medal is draped around his neck.
Meanwhile, the future of one Spurs star may have been decided.
Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be available for selection against Tottenham on Sunday.
The 21-year-old did not travel to Belgium as the Reds beat Genk 4-1 in the Champions League as he was suffering from a virus.
The England international has become an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s side since his introduction to the side in 2016. He is two appearances off making his century of appearances in the first team, having scored five goals and provided 23 assists in 98 games for the Reds.
After the 2018/19 campaign, himself and Andy Robertson became the first set of defenders from the same team to record double figures for assists in the same season.
Alexander-Arnold last featured during the 1-1 draw against Manchester United but manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he should be ready to come straight back into the team.
“Trent is fine. Or looked fine, if there is no setback,” said Klopp during his pre-match press conference.
“He was ill – ill enough to not travel with us, which is not a good sign, but yesterday he had a clearing session and if it is as it was yesterday then he should be fine.”

James Milner filled in at right-back for the absent youngster in Genk and supporters have been excited about the news that Alexander-Arnold will come back into the first team. One fan said that it was the “best news he had heard all day”.

Ben Davies was given the captain’s armband for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Everton at the weekend.
That’s the Ben Davies who had made three Premier League appearances prior to the game, with two of those adding up to 16 minutes of action.
Of course, one can argue that Mauricio Pochettino’s hands were tied. Hugo Lloris is injured and ruled out until 2020 while Harry Kane suffered from a virus that ruled him out of the game at Goodison Park.
Nevertheless, Davies’ pick shines a rather unfortunate light on the depth at the club and the lack of alternative leaders.
Paulo Gazzaniga has only just come into the team; Serge Aurier would have been a disgrace of a selection due to his spate of Spurs calamities; Davinson Sanchez is perhaps too young while Toby Alderweireld’s contract expires in the summer and handing him the armband could have been seen as a message of acquiescence; Tanguy Ndombele is a new signing; Moussa Sissoko is excellent but perhaps too erratic; Christian Eriksen hasn’t been at the races this term with just one goal and one assist to his name in the Premier League.
That leaves Heung-Min Son, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura. Son is the captain of South Korea and even wore the armband as his country beat Germany in the 2018 World Cup. He has worn that armband on 16 occasions, most recently in the 0-0 draw with bitter rivals North Korea.
Alli is an excellent player and has a mature head on his shoulders so he could well have worn the armband; so too could Lucas, who is 27 and has won multiple trophies throughout a storied career.
To pick Davies, though, is almost a dereliction of Pochettino’s duty. The armband is symbolic, of course, and this is not to say that a different selection could have changed the result as Spurs again dropped points on the road. They haven’t won away from home since January.
But picking Davies, a player who has never once captained either Spurs or Wales, ahead of someone like Son, a leader, a player who is also a game-changer, corrodes the meaning of the captaincy by suggesting anyone within the squad can wear the armband.
That could be seen as a meritocratic message but really, Pochettino has given the responsibility to a player who was woefully unequipped for it and it is little surprise that, as soon as Son was sent off after that horrendous injury to Andre Gomes, Spurs wilted.
Per WhoScored, Davies had 60 touches of the ball, had a pass success rate of just 50%, failed to win a tackle and was dispossessed on three occasions.
Spurs simply didn’t have a leader on the pitch; least of all Davies.

Starting Chambers after a good game against west ham is not acceptable, Cedric is acceptable at right full back than chambers , Elneny is not acceptable when we need goals, and Ceballos played well before he went off, after sub Ceballos Liverpool dominates the game even more — peteru (@peter40193024) April 3, 2021
أوباميانج لم يفعل أي شيء، خروج تيرني تركنا مكشوفين تمامًا، سيبايوس لم يكن له أي آثر، الدفع بالنني كان خيارًا أفضل.
Aubameyang does nothing playing LHs against any decent team – Leno questions…. – Xhaka missed badly – Tierney going off left us completely exposed – Ceballos missing without trace Elneny was better option — Paul C (@MrPLC) April 3, 2021
لا أستطيع أن أرى سيبايوس يبدأ مع أرسنال، النني الآن أفضل بكثير، نحن نفتقد حقًا تشاكا في وسط الملعب.

In today’s Leeds United roundup, we take a look at what headlines are doing the rounds for the Whites. Danny Murphy believes the club will lose Kalvin Phillips if they don’t return to the Premier League next season, manager Marcelo Bielsa discusses the striker debate, and reports suggest Mateusz Klich and Luke Ayling are set for new deals.
‘I’m surprised he’s still there’, says Murphy
Report: Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy worries that Leeds could lose star man Kalvin Phillips, should they fail to earn promotion. Murphy told talkSPORT on Monday: “I’m surprised he’s still there. I like him a lot. He’s a great passer, tenacious… If Leeds don’t go up this season, and I really hope they do for their sake, he will leave.”
Verdict: Phillips has been one of Leeds’ more consistent players in recent times averaging a performance rating of 6.98 on WhoScored last season. The 23-year-old has risen through the ranks with the Whites and after scoring on his home debut in 2015, Phillips has gone onto make 151 appearances already and subsequently attracted attention from other clubs, including Aston Villa.
This season, as Phillips continues to prove his importance, the Englishman has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.42. However, in relation to Murphy’s concerns, Football Insider reported that Phillips’ new deal includes a release clause that can be triggered if the club does not return to the Premier League.
Bielsa discusses Bamford and Nketiah partnership

Report: Bielsa has touched on the dilemma of playing both Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah, telling reporters: “I think that your question is linked with the presence of Nketiah and Bamford together because maybe we can be more efficient with those two players in the team, two goalscorers are in better condition to take advantage of 10 chances.
“My answer is, if we play with two goalscorers, maybe we take Forshaw, Klich or Shackleton out, I think that one centre forward without two midfielders behind him is going to worsen the building of the attack.
“So if you have two centre forwards in a team that doesn’t create a lot of chances, you cannot take advantage of the resource that you have.”
Verdict: Nketiah has yet to start a Championship game for Leeds since joining on loan from Arsenal, but his two goals in just 89 minutes of play have certainly put forth a strong argument that he should start. However, it would be tough for Bielsa to drop Bamford based on the fact he has four goals in eight games and is the league’s joint-second top scorer, therefore forcing the Argentine to drop someone else.
It could also be a risky decision to leave out a midfielder, with Adam Forshaw averaging a performance rating of 6.83, Klich scoring 7.03 and Phillips boasting 7.42. So, although Nketiah clearly has the goalscoring touch, to sacrifice a consistent midfielder could spark defensive worries due to less bodies being in the engine room, and reduce their ability to actually get the ball to the centre-forwards.
Klich & Ayling expected to sign new deals
Report: As reported by Leeds Live, both Luke Ayling and Klich are ‘expected’ to sign new deals ‘imminently’. The club expects Polish international Klich to sign a long-term deal, whilst Ayling will follow shortly after.
Verdict: As the Whites continue to lead the way at the top of the Championship table, it is essential that Bielsa gets certain players wrapped up in their march for the Premier League. Currently, Ayling is on the verge of a return from injury after playing 42 times for the club in all competitions last year, scoring twice and assisting six times.
However, Stuart Dallas has turned in some excellent performances at right-back in Ayling’s absence, scoring a 7.13 rating thus far. But, with games coming thick and fast in the Championship, tying down players in such a frantic league is important for squad depth.
As for Klich, the Pole has played every game this season and has bagged a goal and an assist thus far, but his current contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign. It make sense, then, that Leeds are looking to secure his stay at the club for beyond the summer.
