Sheffield Wednesday’s predicted XI vs West Brom

Sheffield Wednesday are finally back in action this weekend, and it will be for the first time since the EFL charged them for financial misconduct.

Garry Monk has also had two weeks on the training pitch barring the absence of two international stars, so they will have surely worked on their recent troubles – game-management and goalscoring.

It makes for an exciting game as league leaders West Brom play host at the Hawthorns.

Having thrown away yet more points last time out, will the 40-year-old be prepared to make any major adjustments to his side?

Football FanCast predict that Monk will make a total of three changes as several key figures return to the lineup.

Sam Hutchinson will be needed at the base of the midfield three, his squad-high 2.2 tackles per game will be of the utmost importance when coming up against Matheus Pereira, who has managed three goals and six assists this campaign.

In front of him should be Barry Bannan and Massimo Luongo, who hasn’t been seen since his winner against Stoke City a month ago. That was his second winning goal in three games, so his influence will be vital.

Meanwhile, Julian Borner returns to the starting XI in place of captain Tom Lees. The German was a surprise omission against Swansea City as he battled a virus – the skipper filled in, but that was his first game since August.

Out wide, Jacob Murphy keeps his spot ahead of Adam Reach with Kadeem Harris on the other side.

Steve Fletcher leads the line on his own – he’ll be hoping he can end a run of six games without a goal. It also means that Atdhe Nuhiu drops to the bench.

AC Milan should cut ties with Fabio Borini amid Crystal Palace interest

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

AC Milan are still struggling to get their season underway.

Ever since the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign, the Rossoneri have been rather lacklustre in their approach and as a direct result of that they are currently sitting in 12th place in the Serie A table with no clear signs of improvement.

With only one win in their last six games under their belts, it has become clear that some changes are going to be needed if they want to salvage anything this year.

One such change seems to be dealing with outcasts and players that are deemed surplus to requirements in the team.

Fabio Borini, for one, is definitely on that list as Calciomercato have recently come out with a report stating the Rossoneri are keen to see him go in the near future.

And just by looking at the 28-year-old winger’s current situation at the club, his departure could very well be a win-win scenario for both parties.

After all, with just 70 minutes in a total of two games played for Milan this season, Borini is not likely to get any game time moving forward and the exit door might be the only solution to this problem.

Crystal Palace are a club Calciomercato name as one showing interest and despite the Premier League side targeting a man out of favour, Borini could still offer them some much-needed quality.

He’s a player known to be able to shift between multiple positions across the forward line, having played on both flanks and down the middle throughout his career, as recorded by Transfermarkt’s current database.

Not to mention that he is very much familiar with English football since he had stints with both Sunderland and Liverpool, netting 17 for the former and three goals for the latter team respectively.

By all accounts, there is still something in him that Crystal Palace could potentially use and maybe a move to the Premier League could reignite his career.

Milan, on the hand, would be getting some funds they can definitely use to bolster their squad and finally start moving forward.

In other news, Milan simply can’t afford to lose one of their stars who’s linked with an exit to West Ham…

Spurs fans desperate for club to sign Alex Grimaldo

Tottenham Hotspur fans are desperate for the club to sign Alex Grimaldo from Benfica.

Calciomercato, via A Bola, claim that Spurs are among a number of clubs chasing the left-back, with Arsenal and Napoli also interested.

And fans have been left rather excited by the news of their club’s interest.

A Spain U21 international, Grimaldo has made 131 appearances for Benfica, scoring 11 goals and registering 26 assists.

This season already, the former Barcelona B man has one goal and four assists to his name in 14 outings.

Indeed, Spurs have struggled at the start of the 2019/20 campaign and Danny Rose has looked out of his depth at times at left-back, picking up five yellow cards in just nine games and averaging 1.6 fouls per game from just 1.8 tackles, per WhoScored.

A number of supporters believe Grimaldo, who is reportedly valued at €40m (£34.4m) is exactly what Tottenham need as they approach the transfer window.

Arsenal fans want Brendan Rodgers to replace Unai Emery

It was another bad result for Arsenal at the weekend against Crystal Palace. The Gunners were 2-0 up at home against the Eagles after nine minutes thanks to goals from Sokratis and David Luiz, yet they somehow conspired to leave the Emirates Stadium with just a 2-2 draw after Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew levelled up proceedings. In the video below, we look at where it all went wrong for Arsenal’s former ‘saviour’, Mesut Ozil…It means that the Gunners have now won just two of their last eight games in the Premier League, and the pressure is really beginning to crank up on boss Unai Emery. The former Sevilla boss is said to be safe for now, but some more results like this could see that change.Brendan Rodgers, meanwhile, is doing a fantastic job at the King Power Stadium with Leicester. The Foxes are currently third in the table and beat Southampton 9-0 on Friday night.Such has been his side’s form, the north London outfit’s faithful want the former Celtic manager to take over from Emery. They have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.

West Ham fans react to Winston Reid’s latest injury setback

Winston Reid has been plagued with injuries since signing a six-year deal in 2017 and West Ham fans are beginning to think this is the beginning of the end of his time at the club.

Their reaction comes as a result of the centre-back once again failing to return from injury at the time anticipated, missing an under 23 EFL Trophy clash with Cheltenham Town that was meant to be his first appearance of the season.

The New Zealand international is sidelined with a knee injury he picked up against Swansea in March 2018, and despite a prolonged period out he is still not ready to return.

It is a big blow for the 31-year-old, who had previously been a key player under managers such as Sam Allardyce and Slaven Bilic, making more than 30 appearances in five out of six seasons prior to 2017/18.

Now, even when he does return he will take time to reintegrate into the side, and with Angelo Ogbanna and Issa Diop the preferred options of Manuel Pellegrini, his Hammers career hangs in the balance.

West Hams supporters certainly think so and some have reacted with sympathy as a result, as seen in the reactions below.

Juventus: Fans show love for Paulo Dybala after winner

Juventus fans have shown their love for Paulo Dybala after he scored a double in the final 15 minutes to secure a win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

Juve were 1-0 down heading into the final quarter of an hour but the Argentinian forward was able to score two goals in two minutes to make sure that they stayed top of Group D.

The Old Lady were largely dominant throughout the match, having 78 per cent possession throughout the match and having 28 shots to five (BBC).

Lokomotiv took the lead on the half-an-hour mark as Aleskei Miranchuk scored past Wojciech Szczesny.

At the halfway stage of the groups, Juventus are above Atletico Madrid only on goal difference as they beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 in Madrid.

Unsurprisingly, when Paulo Dybala tweeted about the victory, fans absolutely loved the message.

Here are some of the responses…

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa ignoring key formation is puzzling

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Marcelo Bielsa attracted widespread criticism from Leeds fans at the weekend.

Considering the way he’s taken Leeds to a new level in the Championship it was perhaps somewhat of an overreaction.

But there is an argument to be had in terms of his team selection.

At the moment, it’s proving questionable and the way he’s set up his team has led to late exploitation and also a lack of goals.

In matches against Swansea and Derby, they had over 60% of the possession but only scored once and took just a solitary point from those clashes.

So what can Leeds do?

On the chalkboard

At the moment Bielsa’s tactical ignorance is proving to be a real issue for Leeds. He keeps on relying on Jack Harrison, someone who hasn’t contributed to a goal since the opening weekend, while Patrick Bamford has now gone goalless in three games.

The calls, certainly from supporters, is for Eddie Nketiah and Helder Costa to start but possibly a system change is needed.

After all, arguably Leeds’ best performance in the league this season came when operating with three at the back.

Against Stoke last month the Whites recorded a 3-0 victory as they amassed 64.5% of the possession away from home.

It was as complete a performance as you can get on the road as Bielsa’s much-teased two man attack was in operation.

On the day, Harrison and Bamford were the men tasked with leading the line as a pairing but with Nketiah now so close to gaining a chance, perhaps this is how the Argentine can work him into his system.

It’s particularly confusing that the 64-year-old has neglected this formation since the win over Stoke.

Leeds are struggling to get over the line but even if a 4-1-4-1 is his preferred way to go, he shouldn’t be against change.

The Whites’ brightest spell against Brentford came when they switched to a three-man defence as Nketiah popped up with a late winner.

It allowed greater protection for their attacking full-backs in Stuart Dallas and Gjanni Alioski as well, who both scored against Stoke.

In that 3-4-1-2 system they deployed at the Potteries, Leeds looked confident in defence but also going forward.

That was certainly not the case versus the Rams, especially late on when they conceded three of Derby’s five efforts on goal in the final 15 minutes.

Ignorance is sometimes bliss but perhaps Bielsa ought to look at something that has already treated Leeds so well in 2019/20, rather than a system that’s causing difficulties.

Liverpool’s James Milner delivers a professional verdict after 4-3 win

Milner delivered a professional verdict after Liverpool won 4-3 on Wednesday.

He didn’t get carried away after the win, though he did enjoy a cheeky pop at whoever operated the Anfield scoreboard, which inexplicably read 3-3 when the score was actually 3-1, which of course became quite an impressive prediction by the hour mark.

The midfielder was clear in his message – there is work to be done at Liverpool if they want to retain their European crown.

Rangers man Jones sends message to Chelsea talent Billy Gilmour

Earlier this week, Billy Gilmour made his first competitive start for the Chelsea first-team as the Blues took apart Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup by winning 7-1 at Stamford Bridge.

It was a fine performance from a Blues side possessing some of the famed youth that they have at the club and it is certainly apparent that Frank Lampard is willing to use his kids at the moment.

Whether or not Gilmour features in the league much this season is perhaps up for debate, but it is clear that the Glasgow-born player – formerly at Rangers – is on the right path in terms of his progression.

Indeed, Rangers fans should be pleased to see one of their own making his mark at a top Premier League club – though they, of course, would surely prefer him to still be at Ibrox.

Even so, the Rangers ties remain strong with Jordan Jones among those to congratulate Gilmour on Instagram after he posted about his full debut on the social media platform…

An exciting moment for the youngster and potentially the first of many as he looks to advance his career at the west London club.

Arsenal fans compare Emile Smith-Rowe to Kevin De Bruyne after great finish

[ad_pod ]

Emile Smith-Rowe looks to have a bright future ahead of him at the Emirates Stadium.

The 19-year-old had a spell at RB Leipzig last season, which unfortunately did not go to plan because of some injury issues, but he is back at Arsenal and may have a shot at some game time this season.

The teenager featured in the Gunners’ PL2 game against Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday and managed 62 minutes before being taking off. He put in a good performance, and even scored a fantastic goal as his side won 2-1.

AFTV’s Robbie has his say on Arsenal’s owners in the video below…

Arsenal shared a clip of the effort on their official Twitter account on Monday, and it is fair to say that the club’s fans were delighted with the attacking midfielder’s quality as he finished off a great run.

Some fans even compared him to Manchestester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. From afar, there is a slight resemblance, although quality and experience-wise he is inevitably some way off the Citizen at this point.

If Smith-Rowe can go on to be half the player the Belgium international is, then he will have done well for himself. This is, after all, a Premier League superstar who has bagged 41 goals and 69 assists from midfield in 177 City appearances.

The Gunners faithful were vocal on Twitter, and you can see some of the best comments below.
