Wolves have been snubbed for major transfer target Carlos Vinicius after Spurs have had a bid accepted for a £2.7million loan move.

Reports claim that Jose Mourinho’s side will take the striker initially on a short-term deal before paying to buy him outright next year. Benfica will receive €40million (£35.9m) once Tottenham finalise the permanent deal at the end of this season However, the Portuguese outfit could have banked a sweeter deal had they entertained Wolves instead.

Why didn’t Wolves sign Carlos Vinicius?

TVI24 journalist Rui Pedro Braz (via Sport Witness) has outlined that the Wanderers had two official bids for Vinicius rejected before Benfica shook with Spurs. In January, Wolves tabled a handsome €60million (£53.9m) but it was turned down. Then, they followed up with an offer of €45million (£40.4m) which was also rejected.

Both offers were substantially more than what Tottenham are willing to pay, which will probably be playing on Benfica’s mind. Perhaps they thought that they could haggle for an even higher price given the fact that Vinicius was valued at a whopping £90million after his impressive performances in front of goal (via Daily Mail).

The 25-year-old netted a stellar 18 goals in 32 Liga NOS appearances, finishing the 2019/20 season with a total of 24 goals and 13 assists across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

A strike partner for Raul Jimenez

With Diogo Jota making his move to Liverpool, Wolves are now short on attacking options. Adama Traore made a huge impact last campaign but often went long streaks without being involved in a goal. For Raul Jimenez, who already has two goals in three this term, a prolific goalscorer similar to himself could have been the perfect Wolves signing.

Nuno’s side fell short of a top six place last season, snubbed ironically by Spurs on goal difference. Jimenez led the line with 17 goals to his name and 26 across all competitions, way out in front of second highest club scorer Jota who scored seven and 16 respectively (via Sportsmole).

Deadline day looms and Wolves may have to solely rely on Jimenez this season to improve on their seventh place finish whilst rivals Spurs boast the signing they fell short of acquiring.

Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson has revealed his transfer plans as the new League One season fast approaches.

Whilst the 2020/21 campaign may offer some optimism for Sunderland fans, the memories of the club’s failure to gain promotion to the Championship over the last two seasons has become a concern.

Parkinson will find himself under pressure to ensure that they get it right this time after guiding the Wearsiders to a lowly eighth-placed finish last term.

After seeing a whole host of first team regulars leave the club this summer, Parkinson has been actively attempting to bring in some new faces.

No fewer than seven players have come in to the Stadium of Light, with the likes of Aiden O’Brien and Morgan Feeney added to Sunderland’s squad.

Speaking ahead of his side’s first League One fixture against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, Parkinson revealed that he wanted to bring in one more player before the transfer window closes.

“We’re getting there, another one would be great for us in the next week or so and we’re working towards making the right addition to compliment what we’ve got.”

It will be interesting to see how Sunderland get on this season with the Wearsiders embarking on a third successive campaign in League One. The new arrivals should improve the side, but whether or not the required form and consistency can follow remains to be seen.

Parkinson will be under pressure to ensure that the Black Cats are on course to return to the Championship and, should he fail, his transfer business could be heavily scrutinised…

Potential new Sunderland owner William Storey has added to speculation by posting an image of himself wearing the club’s home shirt outside the Stadium of Light.

After failing to gain promotion from League One to the Championship last season, pressure is firmly mounting on the shoulders of current Black Cats owner Stewart Donald.

Donald, who took over the Wearsiders backÂin 2018,Ârevealed just 19 months into his tenure that he wanted to leave the club and sell up, prompting a whole host of names to show interest in succeeding him at the helm.

Chinese businessmanÂSammy Yu,ÂMark CampbellÂand former Wearside club defenderÂMichael Gray have all been linked with interest, but Storey’s name has been consistently mentioned of late.

Despite claims made by Sunderland Echo that Donald has entered an ‘exclusive’ stage with a potential buyer, the Rich Energy owner has added to speculation by posting a number of images on his official Twitter, including some of him in a retro Black Cats shirt.

The current asking price set by Donald for a potential new owner is at£37.6m, which Storey can seemingly afford given that his company already actively sponsors a number of sports players, clubs and organisations.

You have to take your hat off to Storey for this publicity stunt. Not only does it show fans of Sunderland that he is keen, but it also suggests that he is willing to go the extra mile for the club.

Whether Storey who is the man entered into an ‘exclusive’ stage with Stewart Donald remains to be seen, but why would he be in Sunderland otherwise?

Many Aston Villa fans have discussed a report claiming Dean Smith will be handed a transfer budget of £100m this summer.

The Midlands outfit narrowly escaped relegation in the 2019/2020 season, drawing with West Ham United on the final day of the season to ensure that they remained in England’s top flight.

Having spent a large amount on players last summer, Villa boss Smith will be once again looking to the transfer market to explore the potential of bringing in some new faces.

Signing in the likes of Wesley, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Trezeguet, Smith spent £143million in total on new arrivals last term.

The Sunday Mirror via Birmingham Mail have already started to discuss potential summer arrivals and have put together a report over the weekend which claims Smith will be allocated £100m to bring in four players.

Birmingham Mail also go a little deeper into who Villa could potentially bring in this summer with Brentford winger Said Benrahma emerging as a possible target.

Responding to the £100m claim, Villa fans took to Twitter via @villareport to give their opinion on who should be signed if that amount becomes available. One fan suggested that they would be in a relegation battle again having received a bigger budget last term only to end up near the bottom three, whilst another suggested they were ‘doing a Fulham’ again – last season many likened their spending to that of the Cottagers in 18/19.

Craig Hope has claimed on his official Twitter page that it would ‘be good’ to see the academy graduates of the Tyneside club to get some time on the pitch over the next couple of weeks as the 2019/20 season in the Premier League draws to a near close.

The Daily Mail journalist named the likes of Tom Allan and Jack Young as two players who could be given a chance under Steve Bruce, which may please several members of the Toon faithful.

Given that the Magpies are now mathematically safe from relegation, and that they may not have enough with just a few games left to climb into the European qualification spots in the top flight table, it may be a good idea to blood the youngsters as Hope suggests with arguably not much left to play for in the North East.

Allan and Young have both impressed so far at youth level, with the former Transfermarkt.

With NUFC being knocked out of the FA Cup to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the quarter-final stage too, it could provide them as well as some others an opportunity to show Bruce what they can do at senior level in the last few matches in preparation for the new term, where they may be looking to break into the first-team squad.

Most supporters love to see players come through the academy and break into the first team and Newcastle are a club the often produces top talent – the Longstaff brothers being two recent examples of youngsters who have made the jump.

It seems likely that fans would be happy to see a couple more local lads given a shot in the first team between now and the climax of the 19/20 campaign, especially given that there is little left to play for this term.

It seems that the rumours of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being on Real Madrid’s radar are here to stay.

Just recently, Los Blancos were linked with a swap deal for Freddie Ljungberg’s hitman in a transfer that would see James Rodriguez and some cash go the other way.

Needless to say, even that offer seemed like a foolish move for the Spanish giants, and now, Duncan Castles has reported that Zinedine Zidane is looking to sacrifice Luka Jovic in order to land his target.

He said so on The Transfer Window podcast, starting at 23:30, claiming that Aubameyang is still stalling on a new contract and the Galacticos would be ready to pounce on him with another offer for the Gunners.

Aubameyang’s contract is due to run out in the summer of 2021 so that leaves Ljungberg with some room to manoeuvre out of this position, but they are running out of time to make some real money from the player if separation truly is inevitable.

Of course, losing a leadership figure who’s managed to bag 12 goals in 19 games in 2019/20 is never easy but getting someone as young and as talented as Jovic in return is something that could potentially sweeten the deal just enough.

But for Real Madrid and Zidane, this would be a rather foolish move.

Karim Benzema is also on the wrong side of his 30s and Jovic was brought in for a reported fee of about £58m to one day replace the Frenchman.

But so far, he has only tallied 11 games under his name for the Galacticos, bagging one goal in the process. Even though that is definitely not a brilliant return, Jovic hardly ever plays and the 319 minutes he’s managed to accumulate so far can attest to that.

Adding Aubameyang, who’s 30 already, into the squad makes little sense given that would leave Real Madrid with two ageing forwards.

Add in the fact they’d be sacrificing a young player with the potential to be a long-term option at centre-forward and it’s fair to say the deal looks catastrophic.

Jovic has quality, that much we’ve seen during his Eintracht Frankfurt days when he scored 36 goals and assisted further nine in 75 games.

Zidane should just be a bit more patient with his talent.

He’s bound to grow with time.
