Aston Villa must sign Ipswich’s Liam Gibbs

Aston Villa could strike gold this summer with a bargain swoop for Ipswich Town’s Liam Gibbs.

What’s the story?

According to reports in recent weeks, Villa have been one of the clubs named as keeping a track of Gibbs’ situation with the Tractor Boys, and it appears that the Midlands club now have the perfect chance to make their move.

The Suffolk News have revealed that the 18-year-old starlet is set to depart Ipswich this summer after contract talks between the two parties broke down.

The report added: “It means Gibbs is now a free agent from this morning and Ipswich are set to only get a nominal compensation fee for their part in training him.”

Forget Smith Rowe

While reports in recent days and weeks have linked Villa with a swoop for Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe, Dean Smith’s side may be better off abandoning on what at the moment looks to be a dead-end pursuit and instead target Gibbs.

Like Smith Rowe, the Ipswich teenager is predominantly a number ten, but has also shown some versatility by playing from the left, and he seems destined for a big future.

Portman Road academy chief Bryan Klug said: “He is a goalscorer and he is a goal creator. He has got a real talent and one thing now is this football club presents opportunities to people like that.

“He has got the talent, there is no doubt. He is one of the most talented people I have worked with. I would not rule out anything for Liam. I think he has got the potential to be a top player.”

Rather than potentially wasting time going after a player in Smith Rowe, who Arsenal are adamant will not be sold as they look to tie up a new contract for him, Gibbs could be the kind of young, exciting signing who could make a real impression at Villa Park.

Also, the fact that the 18-year-old is a free agent and that Ipswich would only be due a “nominal compensation fee” makes him a hugely enticing transfer prospect from a financial sense as well.

Johan Lange could hit the Villa jackpot with a bargain move for Gibbs this summer.

Meanwhile, Villa are closing in on this big-money signing…

Owls close in on Hagan agreement

A major boost has emerged for Sheffield Wednesday, one that could lead to the club keeping a sought-after dynamo this summer.

What’s the talk?

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have held positive talks with young forward Charles Hagan and thsy are closing in on agreement to keep the academy starlet at the club. Hagan’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the month and Wednesday are working hard to avoid losing him on a free transfer.

The report claims that Hagan is highly-rated by Darren Moore and that he could have a chance to seal regular first-team minutes in League One if he remains at the club. He has also had interest from Premier League, Championship and League One clubs, with Brentford, Stoke and Charlton said to be monitoring his situation.

Hagan’s preference is to stay at Hillsborough and compete for his spot in the first-team as the 19-year-old eyes the next step in his development. This, however, is not the case with Osaze Urhoghide as the young defender has decided to reject the club’s efforts to keep him at the club and as such, he will leave at the end of June.

Moore will be buzzing

Moore will be buzzing with this update as it now appears likely that Hagan will be in his Sheffield Wednesday squad next season. Given all the doom and gloom surrounding the wage situation at the club, with the PFA stepping in to help, this is a much-needed boost for Wednesday and Moore. Hagan signing a new contract at Hillsborough is good news, the type that has come few and far between since relegation to League One was confirmed earlier this year.

Hagan putting pen to paper on an extended deal could also be a signal of intent to other academy products considering their futures at the club. Whilst Urhoghide has already opted against a new deal at Sheffield Wednesday, other players could look at Hagan and see him potentially progressing into becoming a regular first-team player and follow suit.

The £530-per-week attacker made his senior debut for Wednesday last season in the League Cup and the report above mentions that Moore rates him very highly. This suggests that next term could be a breakthrough year for Hagan if he plays his cards right.

If Moore gives him the chance then he will need to take it in League One and if he can make the grade, then the Wednesday boss will be all the more delighted that the 19-year-old has committed his future to the club.

West Ham bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain

West Ham have reportedly made a fresh bid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Liverpool are still not willing to sell the midfielder this summer.

The Lowdown: Peripheral figure for Reds

The 27-year-old only featured sporadically for the Reds last season, making just two starts in the Premier League, partly due to injuries.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has never quite been the same player since damaging his cruciate ligament back in 2018, struggling to be a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp.

The Latest: West Ham make new bid

The midfielder has been linked with a move to West Ham in the past and it is now claimed by Anfield Central that the Hammers have tabled a fresh bid for him.

Liverpool remain keen on keep hold of Oxlade-Chamberlain, however, and will only let him leave if he tells the club he wants to move on.

The Verdict: Keep hold of Ox

While Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury problems have been frustrating, along with some inconsistent form, it would still be best for Liverpool to retain his services, with Jurgen Klopp calling him ‘outstanding’ in the past.

As he showed late on in the season at Burnley, he is capable of chipping in with key goals from midfield, with only Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino beating his tally of eight in the title-winning 2019/20 season.

If the fitness issues persist, next summer may be time to think about moving Oxlade-Chamberlain on, with his current Liverpool deal expiring in 2023.

City could not stop Biman

Bangladesh Biman secured full points against City Club as they won by 13 runs in a close match held in BNS today

Shahryar Khan11-Apr-2002Bangladesh Biman secured full points against City Club as they won by 13 runs in a close match held in BNS today. Good all round performances from the Pakistanis (Shahed Mahmud of Biman and Hasan Raja from City Club) saw the match in an exciting finish. Mahmud, the right-arm leggie and a very familiar face in BNS, was rightly awarded the man-of-the-match for his contributions in both departments.Faruk Ahmed won the toss and didn’t hesitate to bat first. Though Javed Omar Belim (Not in the best of his form) and Aftab Ahmed fell cheaply within 13 overs, skipper himself and Aminul Islam batted patiently in the following wicket to take the tally to 80. Faruk Ahmed fell prey to Jamal Ahmed’s off spin guile for 42 that had 6 fours in it. Aminul Islam followed him adding only 8 runs on the board, which put Biman in a precarious position. However, Hasanuzzaman and Khaled Mahmud put together an 84-run stand and slowly the gloom in Biman camp began to dissipate. Hasanuzzaman top scored 45 before Hasan Raja did away with him. Khaled Mahmud scored a dazzling 37. But it would have been impossible for Biman to throw a good challenge had Shahed Mahmud not played his quick fire 37 off 22 balls in the next wicket. The diminutive all rounder slammed 2 huge sixes and 3 boundaries on his way, which finally placed the club to a respectable 231 for 8 after 50 overs – though not a very comfortable yet a fighting total at BNS.City Club recovered from the early loss of Shahriar Hossain when their skipper Azam Iqbal put 50 runs in the second wicket with Mohammed Salim and 36 in the next wicket with Hasan Raja, the prodigious batsman from Pakistan. Azam (45) was cut off by Shahed Mahmud in the 28th over and with his dismissal all hopes were laid on Hasan Raja.Hasan was well into the mark as he was chipping in with singles and twos while his partners Tushar Imran (18) and Halim Shah (28) were providing good assistance from the next two partnerships. But a very unfortunate run out of Halim Shah and a rapid tail collapse hampered City’s proceedings. At 195 they lost Hasan Raja, who tried to play Razzak down the wicket only to miss it. Sajjad Kadir had ample time left to clip the bails off before Hasan could make any effort. Hasan made 55 off 79 deliveries with a solitary boundary in his innings and with his departure City’s hopes and chances dropped. Only Tareq Aziz gave the crowd some moments of excitement before he was put away from a direct hit made by Hasanuzzaman in the final over and with that City finished their innings with 218 for 8.Shahed Mahmud, though a bit expensive in his spells, captured 2 vital wickets giving away 53 runs. Anisur Rahman and Abdur Razzak shared 2 wickets each too.

Celtic lead the race for Ciaron Brown

Celtic’s summer will be dominated by a constant barrage of departures.

Whether it’s someone on the Hoops playing staff or a member of the hierarchy at Parkhead, a mass exodus looks set to take place.

One of those who could leave Glasgow behind is central defender Kristoffer Ajer.

The Norwegian has come a long way since being signed as a 17-year-old, now attracting the eyes of those in the Premier League.

Newcastle have sent scouts to watch him and it wouldn’t be a great surprise if Saturday’s game with Hibernian was his last as a Celtic player.

With Christopher Jullien a long-term absentee, it leaves Stephen Welsh as the only reliable centre-half in the first-team picture.

As such, the Bhoys will need to delve into the transfer market and find a replacement.

According to TEAMtalk, Celtic are leading the race to sign Cardiff City defender Ciaron Brown. The Northern Irishman has had quite the story, being snapped out of non-league football to becoming a professional.

He starred for Livingston earlier this term and it’s his performances at Almondvale that leads us to believe Celtic should sign him.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-howe-favre-mcgregor-mccann-tierney” title=”Read the latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

A dogged defender who can also play at wing-back, he is rather different to Ajer. The Norway international is a wonderful ball-playing centre-back, something epitomised by his pass success rate of 97% this weekend.

Brown, on the other hand, is not so good with the ball at his feet. Throughout 2020/21, the 23-year-old has completed just 53.1% of his passes.

That is a horrifying number but there are certain advantages to signing him. For example, he is colossal in the air, winning 3.3 aerial battles per match this term.

He is also a prolific tackler, winning 1.6 challenges per game for Livingston.

Celtic have seen firsthand what a bully he can be in defence and in the final third. When they drew 2-2 with Livi back in January, Brown not only scored but also assisted a goal from centre-back.

He made a devastating impact that crushed Lennon’s side and handed them a pretty embarrassing result away from home.

A strong and hard-working footballer, his mental attributes could undeniably help Celtic’s lacklustre defence.

They conceded 16 more goals than Rangers in the league this season so need someone with a bit of extra steel.

Speaking to The Daily Record after Cardiff recalled him from his loan spell in Scotland, manager David Martindale said: “He is a massive player for us and he is a great lad around the place.

“Ciaron has got a very good football brain. When I ask him to do a job, he knows what to do and nine times out of ten he will make the right decision.”

Considering the Celtic backline have lacked some very basic decision-making skills this season, Brown would be an astute capture.

They will, however, need to ensure he passes the ball out more adequately than he’s shown this season.

AND in other news, Celtic must sign 5 ft 8 beast who gets “in people’s faces”, he’s perfect for Eddie Howe…

Aston Villa eyeing Sheff Utd’s Sander Berge

Aston Villa are eyeing a summer move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, although they are set to face significant transfer competition for him.

What’s the story?

Reports from Eurosport in recent weeks suggested that Villa are one of the clubs keeping a keen eye on Berge’s situation with the Blades, with Paul Heckingbottom’s side having their relegation from the Premier League confirmed in recent weeks.

The Athletic have now claimed that, along with Dean Smith’s side, both Arsenal and Tottenham are also “following matters closely”, although it’s suggested that the Blades “would dearly like to keep their record signing”.

A midfield general for Dean Smith

With the Blades having been relegated, Villa are in a real position of strength when it comes to signing Berge, with the Yorkshire club now more likely to cash in on a player with real Premier League quality and potential – something their former boss Chris Wilder was quick to hail.

He said: “Sander has been unique. He is the one who has stood out for us. He is a complete midfielder. He can play as 8s and as 6s. He can play in different formations. The wonderful thing about Sander is his attitude.

“Complete midfielders are like that. Look at Jordan Henderson (FWA’s Footballer of the Year last season). Sander should gain enormous confidence that he can play so well in various positions in the Premier League.”

Albert Stuivenberg, Mikel Arteta’s assistant at Arsenal, said about the £35m-rated ace: “He is already very mature. He is intelligent, reads the game well, and takes the initiative. He has the potential to become a future leader.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-aston-villa-transfer-rumours-and-news-copy-copy” title=”Latest Aston Villa transfer rumours and news”]

While it is unknown what price the Blades will demand, their relegation should mean they won’t be able to command the kind of fee they would have expected for him had they stayed up.

Johan Lange could really strike gold for Villa by signing Berge this summer.

Meanwhile, Villa are eyeing this Premier League star who “doesn’t stop running”…

Report makes big Son contract claim at Spurs

According to a report by the Daily Star, making a big contract claim, Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min is close to agreeing a new deal in north London despite the noise surrounding Harry Kane and his future.

Tottenham closing in on welcome Son contract news

Indeed, as per this report, Son is in the final stages of agreeing an extension to his deal at Spurs which has been on the table since September – with the South Korean star looking ‘set’ to commit his future.

The 28-year-old has been brilliant at points this season, particularly earlier in the 2020/2021 campaign when he partnered Kane to devastating effect going forward.

Excluding the England skipper, Son has accumulated the team’s most goals (15) and assists (9) combined this season (WhoScored), and this development that Tottenham are closing in on a new deal for him could come as ‘welcome news’, as explained by the Star.

Transfer Tavern take

Amid all the reports linking Tottenham with a plethora of new managers, Lilywhites will be hoping that they can indeed secure someone who is arguably their second most valuable player.

Still in his prime, Son has plenty of seasons ahead of him and his stay could prove even more crucial to Spurs if Kane opts for pastures new this summer.

Judging by his and Kane’s once formidable partnership, Spurs fans will be praying both men remain and rediscover that form for the 2021/2022 season, and perhaps agreeing a new deal for his mate can actually convince Kane his future belongs in north London too.

AVFC: Fans react to Hendrie’s Buendia comments

Aston Villa have been urged to move for Norwich City star Emi Buendia this summer by former Villans midfielder Lee Hendrie.

As to be expected, those comments have had a number of Villa fans taking to Twitter to give their thoughts on the matter.

Buendia has starred for the Canaries in the Championship this season, scoring 12 times and registering 16 assists in 34 appearances. As Norwich look set for an immediate return to the top flight, Hendrie wants Villa to land the Argentine ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Villa are thought to be looking for a wide addition this summer, along with another striker to challenge Ollie Watkins.

They’ve had recent success of signing stars from the Championship in Watkins and Matty Cash, and Hendrie wants them to do the same with Buendia, who was supposedly on Dean Smith’s transfer radar last summer. However, Sky Sports reported in January that Norwich value their man in the £40m-50m bracket.

Talking exclusively to Football Transfer Tavern, cited by Birmingham Live, Hendrie said:

“I would buy him without a shadow of a doubt.

“I know they talked about buying [Ross] Barkley, but Buendia, I would definitely, I don’t know what sort of fee Norwich would be looking for him, but I would certainly pay that fee. I think he’s an outstanding player.”

Villa fans react

Birmingham Live shared the story on social media on Monday, and it didn’t take long for a number of Villa supporters to give their thoughts on a possible deal.

These fans weren’t exactly ecstatic about Hendrie’s comments, though…
